Job description
The MOA provides clinical care to patients in the clinic module by accompanying patients to rooms; interviewing and recording a brief history of the patient’s problems or needs; measuring and recording such parameters as height, weight, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates; preparing patients for exams by the physician/provider; chaperoning during exams or treatments; reviewing/recording medications in addition to past and newly identified drug allergies, and reviewing the medical record for completeness prior to the physician’s examination. At the conclusion of the visit, the MOA may coordinate appointments or studies ordered by the physicians. The incumbent will also interface with patients via telephone communications regarding medical care and responses to treatments between office visits. The MOA will assist the lead nurse in maintaining inventories of medications, solutions, supplies, and equipment; preparing and maintaining daily cleanliness of exam rooms equipment and instruments; and maintaining adequate patient care supply inventory for exam rooms.

The incumbent may assist in procedures to gain specimens for diagnostic purposes, e.g., stress test with machine instruction, treadmill machine programming, and perform electrocardiograms/electrode placement, pulmonary function tests, and pacemaker programming. Basic laboratory tests routinely encountered include fingerstick glucose tests and dip-stick urinalysis. Additional assistance involves observation of any treatment and/or medication reactions and prompt, concise verbal/written communication of such findings to the physician or nurse.
The MOA provides limited patient (and interested family members), education for treatments and programs to promote compliance and understanding and to allay apprehension. In addition, this individual will assist the patient and family members, when applicable, In planning for self-care at home. The MOA will provide instructions, as directed by the physician, regarding the proper use of medications, diet, prescribed home testing, blood pressure measurement, etc.

Minimum Education/Experience
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require registration as a Nurse Aide by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA.)
License or Certification required by statute or regulation
Depending on candidate qualifications, one of the following will be required:
(1) Contributing: Registered NAI through the NC Department of Health Human Services
(2) Journey: Registered NAII through the NC Board of Nursing
(3) Advanced: Certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is preferred OR Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT). If not already certified or registered, please note that certification or registration through the previous mentioned organizations, or a CCMA through the National Healthcareer Association, must be obtained 6 months from your start date for continued employment.

Considerable knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy; ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of complex therapeutic procedures; and ability to make accurate physical observations of patients.
