Overview and Responsibilities:

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is seeking to hire a Mental Health Coordinator for the Winona Campus. This is a two-year full-time position funded through a grant received by the university.

  • Serves as the primary staff to implement the “Future Full of Hope” program at Saint Mary’s, at the direction of the Project Director and the Vice President.
  • Coordinates, organizes, and executes the regular convening of the Mental Health Coalition at Saint Mary’s, a new working group with external and internal partners to optimize mental health support infrastructure at the university.
  • Works with student groups, such as the Green Bandana Project, to coordinate student-led anti-stigma communication campaigns on the Winona campus.
  • Participate in lethal means training, and conduct an annual audit of lethal means access at the university, including sharing the audit with key university partners.
  • Provides education and outreach services to link and promote evidence-based mental health trainings to faculty, staff, and students, at the direction of the Project Director.
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues in student affairs, student success and First-Generation Initiative, health services and other offices throughout the university to coordinate counseling and outreach services that optimize student strengths and healthy development, and for the prevention and intervention of psychological and behavioral concerns.
  • At the direction of the Office of Mission and Student Affairs, serves as a liaison between the university and Catholic Charities of Southeastern Minnesota to ensure optimal counseling services delivery.
  • Works collaboratively with the project Internal Evaluator and other university partners and departments to maintain the quality, integrity and confidentiality of clients’ records.
  • Participates in the center's emergency and crisis response procedures in accordance with the established Emergency Response Plan for the Winona campus.
  • Works with the Internal Evaluator, Project Director, and the Advancement Office to ensure the timely and satisfactory submission of financial and programmatic reports to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.


Essential Skills and Functions:

  • Develops and maintains good working relationships and communications at all levels of the organization.
  • Observes safety guidelines and follows safety procedures established by the university.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively alone and within a team environment.
Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, program administration, or a related field is required; A master’s degree is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with project management or coordination
  • At least 2 years’ prior experience working in at least one of the following capacities: student development and/or counseling, mental wellbeing program management and/or implementation, providing direct counseling and care in a clinical mental health setting. Experience in higher education and/or with college-aged students strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of college students’ developmental issues as well as current ethical, legal and clinical best practices as foundational principles for quality collegiate counseling.
  • Demonstrated commitment to mental wellness, suicide prevention, and/or substance use disorder treatment or prevention.
  • May consider other acceptable equivalent combinations of training and experience.
