CLUBXYOUTHNIVERSITY is an in-person and online High Impact ELA, Math tutoring and wellness support service for children and youth in grades K-12. Our focus is on children and youth in communities most often overlooked, underserved and on the other side of the digital and economic divide. Our goal is to bridge that gap with a plethora of high quality educational and wellness support.
Who Are We Looking For:
Xposure Foundation Inc is seeking a highly motivated, organized, strategic and detail-oriented Mental Health Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter, hard-working, energetic, and able to proactively anticipate the needs of the students, the needs of the organization and the needs of the parents. This person must be able to balance competing priorities and complete projects within expected deadlines. The Mental Health Counselor develops and administers a comprehensive program that promotes and enhances academic, personal, social, and career development for students in their respective grade levels.
In this role, the Mental Health Counselor will help our students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment. The Mental Health Counselor must have great writing skills, networking skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with the students, the parents, the organization's leadership team and other stakeholders.. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the mission of Xposure Foundation Inc, an understanding and respect for the culture of all our students, and experience working in a school setting that fosters a love for children.
This individual must be credentialed and licensed to work in a school setting. The following licensure requirements are applicable:
Professionals licensed by the New York State Education Department as a: Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or a Licensed Psychologist (PhD or PsyD).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Counsel students grades k-8 and forge relationships with a goal of building confidence and tackling the root of disengagement, bullying and absenteeism
- Serve as a motivational specialist with a focus on wellness for the students.
- Observe students and offer specific strategies to support a successful experience.
- Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in evolving education plans in terms of such evaluation
- Works to discover and develop special abilities of students
- Works to resolve students' educational struggles.
- Remains readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
- Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
- Guides students in their participation in Xposure and community activities.
- Confers with parents whenever necessary.
- Provide support for students and consultation for faculty.
- Advises administrators and faculty on the matters of student discipline.
- Collaborate with the team around behavior management and student support plans.
- Provide counseling and conflict resolution intervention as needed.
- Act as a crisis team member to provide consultation and manage crises.
- Support the implementation of the social emotional learning curriculum lessons.
- Communicate directly with parents and outside service providers.
- Collaborate with staff on Group Counseling, Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying and School Climate
- Takes an active role in interpreting the organization's objectives to students, parents, and the community at large.
- Interprets the guidance program to the community.
- Assist with the arrangements for tutors
- Any additional duties as assigned by the leadership team.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Mental Health/Guidance Counselor for an elementary or middle school
- State Certification in Guidance or Social Work required
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Skill in quickly building relationships with faculty, students, families and outside partners
- Understanding of different student maturity levels
- Ability to help students gain awareness of their interests and abilities and to help them manage their behavior and thinking processes
- Understanding of test construction and ability to interpret educational test data
- Knowledge of grade test targets
- Ability to evaluate a student transcripts
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement meetings involving a variety of topics and personnel
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Strong proficiency in technological tools, including Google Drive
- Experience in using a collaborative model
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
