PART-TIME (with potential of working full-time) DIRECT CARE MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR at our SHELTER CARE GROUP HOME, WILLMAR, MN
Job Activities: Your services will be at a nice, welcoming group home in Willmar. Our residential program is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As a Mental Health Counselor, you will be providing one on one services to our children and group supervision/structure. Many of our children have gone through difficult situations but almost all of them look forward to building connections with our staff, Other activities will include case staffings in a team environment and trainings. We encourage people to be active in the community. Documentation of your services is very important. However GMFS uses an advance electronic record system that make this part of the job go very well.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Requirements: High School Diploma; Must be 21 years or older to apply and a valid drivers license. Starting wage is $18/per hour depending on education and/or experience with a possibility of a .50 cent increase at your 6 month anniversary. Schedule will include primarily evenings and every other weekend and currently offering up to 32 hours per week. These hours would be anywhere from Monday-Friday from 3:00pm-10:00pm and every other Saturday/Sunday from 12:00pm-8:00pm and/or 3:00pm-10:00pm.
Experience: Demonstrated ability to work with children and families experiencing mental health issues in a direct care/counseling role. Primary duties include supervision and support services to our Shelter Care children, skill building services and supervision/structure to children while they are place in our group home. If you are a team player with a passion to help at-risk youth ages 9-17, we are looking for you!
Skills & Knowledge: Familiar with a variety of counseling techniques and theories to aid in trauma care and treatment of individuals with mental health needs such as: behavior modifications for children, child development education, communication, decision-making skills, anger management, social skills, leisure, self-esteem and basic home budgeting. We take a (TRBI) Trust Based Relational Intervention approach.
