POSITION SUMMARY
The Mental Health Technician is responsible for supporting the partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient programs with all pertinent staff (nursing, physician, program therapist).
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in the mental health field; at least six months of experience in a psychiatric setting.
Experience: One year of case management experience is preferred.
Additional Requirements: A working knowledge of the DSM-V, including substance use disorders, the Mental Status Exam, EMTALA, and the Texas Mental Health Code. CPR certification and Handle with Care training within 30 days of employment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides care to patients in a manner that promotes safety, comfort, and the therapeutic environment.
2. Guides patients with activities, attend to patient behavioral problems, and provides assistance in crisis intervention, as needed.
3. Works as part of a clinical team and develops a clinical product.
4. Chart patient observations, following prescribed procedures and standards.
5. Participates in the development and implementation of patient treatment programs.
6. Maintains confidentiality of patient records.
7. May perform initial patient evaluations to determine treatment priorities, may develop and create TX plans.
8. Attends and participates in group sessions, in-service education, and staff meetings.
9. Maintains established institutional policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
10. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
11. May provide liaison with patients, families of patients, or external facilities and agencies.
12. Complete initial contacts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of cultural factors and comprehension of how mental health is evaluated across the cultural spectrum.
2. Work autonomously and efficiently in an independent role.
3. Ability to remain calm while working efficiently under stressful conditions.
4. Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills, including written and verbal, to effectively communicate admitting criteria to the treatment team.
5. Knowledge of criteria required for admission to partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs.

- Denton, TX: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Applicants who have been patients of any program or provider at the facility are eligible for employment under the conditions outlined below: For private practice therapy and medication management, the applicant must have discontinued and/or transferred their treatment to a provider or providers outside of the facility. For PHP/IOP services, the applicant must have discharged from the program at least 2 years prior to applying for employment.
