This position is responsible for serving as the administrative head of the middle school and for overseeing the total operation of the educational program and physical plant. This position ensures the school is in compliance with the educational, business and related operational policies set forth by the Michigan School Code and the Waverly Community Schools Board of Education.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides instructional leadership for school staff; identifies, implements, and monitors strategies that challenge high achievers and accelerate learning for low achievers.
- Manages the design, development and delivery of curriculum.
- Development of the Targeted for Support and Improvement Plan
- Devises comprehensive and effective systems of record keeping in accordance with the needs of the district office programs and the policies, regulations and laws affecting those programs.
- Serves as building Special Education Administrator
- Coordinates district assessments, State and Federal reporting
- Team Builder/Climate & Culture Leader
- Supervises the operation of instructional support groups.
- Manages the financial and budget matters of the middle school.
- Complies with legal and regulatory requirements of the various governmental agencies.
- Monitors the curriculum, instructional practices assessment, analysis of data, and identifies best practices for implementation to support student learning.
- Assists in the recruitment of staff and supervises and evaluates staff performance.
- Identifies training and development opportunities based on best practice research based curriculum.
- Oversees the student discipline process, extra-curricular activities, master schedule of classes and the assignment of teachers.
- Supervises custodial staff, creates and implements safety and crisis response plans and maintains facilities and equipment.
- Keeps abreast of new technologies and innovative techniques to ensure school is implementing best practices when applicable.
- Attends school meetings, district meetings, workshops and other special middle school events as required.
- Maintains a just, equitable and positive school, parent, student, and community relations.
- Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.
RECOMMENDED EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: This position requires a Master’s degree from a four-year college or university in educational administration, curriculum design (or a related field) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: This position requires a minimum of five to ten years of related experience in a classroom setting and five years of progressively responsible supervisory experience. Several years of school administrative experience is preferred. Previous teaching and Assistant Principal experience is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Administrative Certification and Teaching Certificate required.
REQUIRED:
- Expert knowledge of school policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of effective instructional strategies for students with varied abilities.
- Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, policies, rules and regulations as it relates to school administration.
- Knowledge of organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of school programs, policies and operational needs.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of modern management including personnel administration, administrative planning, organizational development, collective bargaining, purchasing and information processing.
- Knowledge of the development needs of a diverse student population.
- Knowledge of computer systems such as Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs and their application.
- Excellent oral, written, and human relations skills.
- Advanced conflict resolution skills, public speaking skills, and strategic visioning skills.
- Ability to plan, supervise, review, coach, mentor, and evaluate the work of supervisory and administrative staff.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, resourcefulness, and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, the Board of Trustees, and member schools.
- Ability to analyze, organize and incorporate data into decision making.
- Must be willing to submit to Waverly Community Schools background checks.
