Natural Resource Specialist/Volunteer Coordinator (Education and Outreach Instructor)

ABOUT THIS ROLE: Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) needs a Natural Resources Specialist to recruit volunteers, educate volunteers and members of the community, community organizations, schools, and County Agencies on topics related to water quality and environmental best practices.
As a member of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Team, you will plan and execute training and educational programming on topics related to water quality and environmental best practices, and provide technical assistance to County agencies and the community. You will work independently to manage over 200 volunteers and conduct environmental outreach in the community.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 4 years of related experience.
PREFERENCES:
2+ years of experience in an agricultural, Natural Resources or environmental science related field- Degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources or Environmental Science
- Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional certification and/or Virginia Nutrient Management Planner certification
- Knowledge of and experience with native plants and invasive species
- Experience managing volunteers
- Ability to research subjects that are scientific in nature and effectively communicate the information to the general public and industry audiences
- Skill in creating and delivering presentations
- Public speaking experience with large and small audiences
- Skilled in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: This is a full-time position that works primarily during normal business hours M-F; however, some evening and weekend work will be required to support program needs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
While much of the work is performed in an office environment, the incumbent will also work outdoors in hot, cold and/or wet weather conditions
ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $58,634- $73,223
