Job Objective: The Education Specialist II develops and delivers content to educators, students, and informal education communities through public education events, experiential learning opportunities along with design challenges and competitions, student enrichment, and virtual learning. Collect data on activity/project accomplishments and effectiveness through Lessons learned, reports, data collection, and briefings. Creates design, development, curriculum, guides, lesson plans, support materials, and professional development for formal and informal learning communities. Employs knowledge of current best practices and research in implementing NSTEM activities, projects, and programs. Collaborations with NASA mission directorates, academia, government entities, professional and community organizations, and commercial partners to advance NASA's mission and the NSTEM objective.
Reports To: Functional Area Lead / Deputy Program Manager
Background: NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) is a STEM engagement activity for community college students seeking to transfer to a 4-year institution or go directly to the labor force. NCAS uses NASA’s unique expertise, research, facilities, and other resources in the area of aerospace to engage students in authentic and experiential learning experiences.
Activity Goals for NCAS include:
- Provide a series of consecutive, coherent, and comprehensive STEM engagement experiences that provide powerful connections to NASA’s mission content and strong alignment to evidence-based instruction and workforce development.
- Use innovations that broaden student participation and advance student skillsets and/or increase student marketability in STEM fields.
- Offer other STEM engagement opportunities to community colleges and/or their students.
Essential Functions:
- Monitor project timelines and task allocations - updating management tools with status for assigned activities in real time
- Coordinate and collaborate across team to assure that all work products content and functionality are of highest quality and informed with up-to-date information
- Develop SOPs and QC procedures; and update to reflect efficiencies, best practices, and lessons learned
- Contributes to client progress and status reports (i.e., monthly reports, weekly registration metrics, etc.)
- Documents all expenses in ODC tracker, as needed
- Assist with market research / literature reviews and present findings
- Prepare and maintain project file folders with all completed work products, artifacts, and deliverables
- Contribute to quality control process - to include peer review of work products and coordinating QC of deliverables
- Document quality control of work products and deliverables prior to delivery to client and/or management
- Stay up to date on necessary technology and processes and show initiative in capturing, documenting, and implementing best practices and lessons learned to improve quality and efficiency of services and solutions

- Classroom teaching in science, math, and/or technology area

- Must have advanced proficiency in MS SharePoint, MS Office Suite, and a variety of virtual meeting platforms (i.e., Zoom, Teams, etc.)
- Must be able to contribute to our positive and pro-active culture while working in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and high-tempo team environment
Work Environment: The work environment is onsite or hybrid setting.
Physical demands: The physical demands of the job include sitting for extended periods, and occasional walking and standing.
Position type and expected hours of work: This is a full-time exempt position. Typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 40-60 hours per week. Some job activities may be required outside of typical workdays/hours and/or during peak periods.
Travel: 20% local and regional travel, with overnight stays necessary
Required education and experience: Master’s Degree & Teaching Certificate Required
Additional eligibility qualifications: A minimum of 6 years of industry-specific experience required
