JOB TITLE: Network Engineer IV – Wi-Fi Development

JOB SUMMARY

The Wi-Fi Development Network Engineer IV is responsible for the development and engineering activities supporting Wireless technologies. This candidate plays a key role in evaluating new technologies and services prior to the integration and deployment into Charter’s network. This role involved overall lab(s) architecture, design, and implementation. The Wi-Fi development Engineer creates strategic test plans that ensure performance and stability of Wireless products in Charter’s network ensuring the highest levels of customer and operational satisfaction. Technologies you will be supporting include, Wi-Fi Routers, Gateways, Access Points, Cable modems, Network switches, routers, Service Provider Wi-Fi routers, and many other new technologies developed by key standards and collaboration committees you are a member of. You will collaborate with Network Architects and Product Development on business and technology requirements and assess vendor solutions to address the requirements. You will work with Network Architects to create detailed test plans and certification curriculums, proof of concept trials, and methodologies for analysis of performance criteria. You will also partner with technical operations staff on system design and configuration and training needs.
you will handle new equipment purchase, budgets, and new equipment acquisitions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience
Participates in network planning, network architecture design and engineering

Integrates and schematically depicts communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations

Evaluates new products, performs network problem resolution

Assists in the development and documentation of technical standards

Develops and implements approved methods of procedure

Designs and establishes protocol compatibility standards, develops and implements network
enhancements and makes recommendations for improvement

Works on projects/ systems/issues of medium to high complexity surrounding network planning, configuration and optimization

Provides escalated tier support across organizations and to third party vendors

Works on one or more projects as a project team member, occasionally as a project team lead

Coaches less experienced staff

Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable

Know, understand and follow company policy

Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Skills / Abilities / Knowledge

Should have excellent knowledge in M2M, In-Home Router industry standards and design/ implementation (MoCA, IPv4 / IPv6, TR-069, IPSEC, QoS, 802.11).

Excellent knowledge of 3GPP standards (GSM, UMTS, HSPA, LTE), 3GPP2 (1xRTT / EVDO) and/or OMA.

Experience developing automation utilizing SCPI,TCL and Python programming languages.

Experience with handset manufacturers, network equipment vendors, and/or chipset vendors a plus.

Should have excellent knowledge with common mobile handset operating systems (Windows Mobile, Android and other Java-Linux platforms) and knowledge of UICC/SIM chipsets & modules relating to wireless devices Knowledge of RF or Network System Performance.

Should have knowledge of various Network adjuncts and services i.e. AAA, Diameter, EAP, PDSN, LTE Data, VoLTE, GRE, Soft GRE, L2TP, CAPWEP.

Experience using protocol communications test equipment and tools (protocol analyzers, CDMA / LTE system simulators, Wi-Fi analyzers and packet sniffers).

Understanding and/or experience working with the following is a plus: - DLNA, UPnP, oneM2M architecture - RRC, NAS, SIP, IMS, OSGI, and DHCP.

Must possess excellent industry knowledge and theoretical understanding of IEEE 802.11 specifications (a/b/g/n/ac, SISO, MIMO, MCS index).

Experience in RF design, HFC Design, DOCSIS specifications 3.0/3.1 a plus.

Experience with testing and Q/A of Layer 1 thru 7 networks

Experience developing automation scripts utilizing TCL, PERL, and Python programming languages.

Experience writing and developing detailed test cases and test plans

Extensive hands-on networking experience (802.11 AP’s, Cable Gateways, Routers, Switches, etc.)

Experience with network test equipment, such as Ixia, Spirent, Fluke Networks, IBB, Spectrum Analyzers, Site Survey Planning tools, and Traffic Generators.

Must possess expert skills and experience with desktop operating systems and applications (Windows, MAC, Unix/Linux).

Strong work ethic with a desire to meet and exceed personal and business goals

Expert level communication, documentation, teamwork skills

Self-motivated to take ownership of assigned projects and deliverables

Experienced technical writing skills sufficient to produce white papers, test cases, test plans, design documents, and technical diagrams

Ability to work both in a team and independently on assigned projects

Learns and adapts to new technologies and methodologies. Must be able to think outside-the-box and exercise innovation.

Ability to work with little supervision to execute highly technical and complex tasks

Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience
Professional level certification or equivalent work experience

Related Work Experience
5+ years of professional experience in an MSO/ISP Networking Engineering capacity

Pay: $50.00 - $55.00 per hour
