This temporary position is located in Raleigh, NC - Wake County.

  • Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $26.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).*

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Adult Correction (DAC). This position is located at 200 Leagan Dr., Raleigh, NC 27603.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide radio installation and vehicle up fit support to the Department of Adult Corrections, Position will review and test radios to determine unit’s structural stability, frequency accuracy, and systems compatibility with vehicle radio systems. The position is required to utilize power meters, electronic frequency counters, frequency generators, multi-meters, service monitors and computer software to
troubleshoot, repair and install mobile radio equipment. Upon completion of install this position will process all warehouse paperwork associated with the installation. Additionally, this position will be responsible for the modification and installation of security screens and vehicle partition systems within the departments required specifications. Position installs all safety equipment in vehicles to include but not limited to, radio equipment, fire extinguisher, various security screen partitions, GPS locators and light packages if needed in vehicle.
Position is required to read, comprehend, and trace circuit paths down to the component level. Position is required to make factory modifications on circuit boards as required to correct malfunctioning equipment. Position must have the ability to isolate and repair communications cabling from antenna to base and remote mobile head units. Position will assist engineer staff in the site survey and area preparation for radio communications towers in open fields, beside buildings or on rooftops up to 120 feet in height. Position will
assist in the installation of antennas, cabling, base station, and remotes as required by the facility construction plan and Radio Communications Manager. Position will also assist in the inventory of incoming warehouse shipments of various radio models, parts, accessories, and support items as well as the surplus of vehicles and radio communications equipment that is outdated or unserviceable. Position is to lead a team of inmates in the installation of various security systems utilized in the safe and secure transport of apprehended and incarcerated
individuals in the Department of Adult Correction vehicle fleet. This position is responsible for the modification and installation of security partition screens in a variety of vehicle makes and models which are largely utilized by the Department of Adult Corrections for secure transport. Position will assist in the retrieval of inoperable vehicles to remove security screens, radio equipment and transport to surplus utilizing the shops rollback
vehicle. Work assignments are received from a Transportation/Communications shop supervisor with general instructions regarding the installation of needed equipment to complete mission objectives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Experience using power meters, electronic frequency counters, frequency generators, spectrum analyzers, multi-meters, service monitors and computer software to troubleshoot, isolate and repair radio equipment.

  • Experience with reading, comprehending and tracing circuit paths down to the component level and perform component level repair.
  • Knowledge of networking and some proficiency in electronic repair, using computers and multiple software applications with radio communications applications.
  • Demonstrated experience with the installation, maintenance, or repair of radio telecommunications equipment. Management Preference:
  • Demonstrated experience in all three areas of installation, maintenance, and repair of radio telecommunications equipment.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of IT experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
