Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Scientific Biomedical Researcherto join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Division of Intramural Research (DIR), Office of Research Training & Development (ORTD).
Responsibilities
- Create, build, and maintain current student and alumni database(s) – FileMaker platform. Update information, validate, and contact students and alumni for information. Track publications, honors, grants, and awards.
- Perform frequent database searches for recent publications; Perform online searches for updates in alumni occupation, residency, location, etc.
- Develop and maintain Tableau dashboards; work with team to understand needs for what data needs to be readily available and accessible data.
- Design algorithms and create dynamic report templates, proficiency in database lifecycle management.
- Standardize reporting formats and methods; communicate with external offices to receive data, enter, validate, and verify; asses external timelines and adhere to program deadlines for data pulls.
- Perform qualitative and quantitative data analyses; create databases, merging and consolidating data as appropriate, prepare data for loading to existing and/or new platforms and systems.
- Create data visualizations for internal and external presentations; provide research and analysis- based summaries.
- Provide formal event summaries and detailed accounts of program events.
- Compose and edit standard program correspondence (emails, memos, etc.).
- Design surveys; apply best practices for question development, collection, and analysis.
- Assist Director with tracking of student academic progress and serve as point of contact for
- faculty inclusion on listservs and SharePoint site; assist program coordinators in academic.

Experience Required / Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Masters or advanced degree preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with planning, implementing, and evaluating large-scale programs and events, preferably within an Academic (College or University) setting.
- Knowledge of HHS data security and privacy policies and procedures; experience working with PII.
- Strong background and demonstrated success in data verification and validation.
- Strong background in writing and editing; scientific writing preferred.
- Ability to quickly adopt standardized metrics for program reporting.
- Strong background/knowledge of advanced PubMed search, iCite, statistical software: R (utilization and creation of data visualizations), Python, FileMaker Pro, SQLite-R, text mining.
- Demonstrated experience building new and updating current databases, creating data pipelines, managing large data sets, researching data trends (academic, scientific, grants, etc.).
- Knowledge of scientific journal trends and publication process, current student, and alumni tracking.
- Highly organized and detail orientated to ensure accurate data reporting, able to research and apply new statistical metrics to program data, able to create data visualization that are catered to a specific audience.
- Ability to interact with senior level data analysts and portfolio managers to learn and apply new metrics.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint), SharePoint, and Filemaker Pro.
- Exemplary writing, analytical, and data management skills.
- Training in expository writing for professional publications with demonstrated outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate advanced data literacy (read, write, and communicate data in context to a broad audience with different levels of analytical and data literacy)
- Demonstrate strong Knowledge of scientometric research and common metrics used to measure the impact of biomedical research – establish protocols and procedures for applying metrics.
