About Virtual Care within NSH

Nova Scotia Health is leading and evolving diverse models of care in partnership with community to support access to primary care for Nova Scotians. To date, there are two (2) pillars of Virtual Care within NSH that offer Nurse Practitioner opportunities -

Pharmacist Walk-in Clinic+

Nova Scotia Health has partnered with Sobeys Inc. on an innovative collaborative care model that pairs pharmacists and nurse practitioners together to provide same day or next day care. Known as Lawtons Drugs Pharmacist Walk-in Clinic+, Nova Scotians are now accessing timely care as part of this proof-of-concept initiative. By pairing pharmacists who are practicing to their full scope with nurse practitioners, together they are assessing and treating a variety of illnesses and health conditions, prescribing medications, and making referrals as needed. This enables patients to access the care that they need in a timely manner from an appropriate primary care provider, and it alleviates pressure on local emergency departments. Currently serving people in the New Glasgow, Truro, and Lower Sackville areas, this is a growth initiative with sites being added as the service expands.

Virtual Care NS

Virtual Care NS provides free, temporary access to primary care for people on the Need a Family Practice Registry. Through Virtual Care NS, people on the registry can make a same-day virtual appointment for their health care needs. Having an online appointment through Virtual Care NS is similar to an in-person appointment. The family doctors and nurse practitioners provide care and health advice for many common health needs. They can prescribe medications, order tests, and make referrals to in-person and specialized care.
