Job Description:

This position is responsible for providing leadership and operational direction to a designated service line or group of departments at a facility. He/she will work in partnership with the Nurse Administrator, other Nursing leadership, and other facility management to ensure the provision of optimal patient care, attainment of financial goals, and development of leaders. This position has either regional accountability or service line/multiple department responsibility for a nursing or clinical program. This position typically reports to the Nurse Administrator. Typical Distribution of Job Duties: 20% Tactical, 50% Operational, 30% Strategic. Tactical Duties include ensuring appropriate staffing, availability of equipment, and employee relations (day-to-day activities). Operational Duties include budget management, budget development, supply acquisition, process improvement, and employee performance evaluations. Strategic Duties include developing goals to meet the Intermountain/Regional Strategic Plan and holding employees accountable to goals.

The number and type of Departments that the Director is responsible for (including any non-Nursing areas).Job EssentialsLeadership: Oversees and directs the environment in which clinical nursing is practiced. Develops the strategic planning process, for day-to-day operations, standards of care and attainment of organizational goals. Directs collaborative problem solving among interdepartmental disciplines. Allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe and compassionate nursing care based on current standards of practice. Responsible for shared decision-making and professional autonomy by providing input into executive-level decisions, and by keeping managers informed of executive level activities. Responsible for the implementation of the vision, mission, core values of the Nursing Philosophy of CARING and Intermountain Healthcare?s Healing Commitments.Operational Effectiveness: Accountable for the financial management of designated departments/service lines, which includes the development, implementation and monitoring of annual capital/operating and personnel (FTEs) budgets. Provide support and education to department managers for meeting financial goals.Employee Engagement: Models and fosters an environment of professionalism. Ensures competent and sufficient number of leadership staff to meet department and patient care needs. Guides the development of recruitment, retention, and employee satisfaction that keeps high performers in place and maintains focus on succession planning. Acts as a role model through the demonstration of personal professional development, continuous learning and competency improvement. Participates in and contributes to educational offerings and visibility in professional organizations.Clinical Excellence: Assures the delivery of safe high-quality patient care through ongoing process evaluation and reviewing clinical outcome metrics. Accountable for the implementation of clinical program protocols, and that ongoing monitoring and process improvement occurs to assure goals are achieved. Collaborates with departments, physicians, service lines, and across the facility and region on benchmarks and best practices to ensure optimal patient care. Collaborates with medical director and system colleagues in the development and implementation of clinical program goals. Participating member of a professional nursing organization appropriate to position and service line.Patient Engagement: Assures that processes and programs are in place that supports the achievement of patient satisfaction and service quality goals. Acts as a leader/mentor for staff in Healing Connections. Promotes and is supportive of department-based and service line research activities.Physician Engagement: Partner with physicians at the service-line level to achieve clinical, operational, and service goals.Community Stewardship: Participates in community outreach activities. Supports staff participation in outside community organizations such as volunteer health clinics, health fairs and advisory boards for not for profit organizations.Minimum QualificationsMasters degree from an accredited university required. Either the Bachelors or Masters degree must be in Nursing. Degree will be verified. RN License.- and - Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.3 years management experience.- and -2 years clinical experience.
