The position is remote with occasional travel to Advocate Health sites in WI/IL and NC/SC.
Summary
The Nursing Informatics Director will support the overall strategic direction for system-wide Nursing Informatics for Advocate Health, under the direction of the Chief Nursing Informatics Officer. Will work closely with leaders from Nursing Operations and HIT to ensure multi-disciplinary nursing direction in the development, deployment, optimization and integration of clinical systems across the enterprise. Applies advanced knowledge of nursing in the delivery of application solutions to drive safe, highly reliable care to patients, as well as a cohesive user experience across the continuum. Assures that workflows are optimized for efficiency, patient safety and quality outcomes. Drives high level, key stakeholder collaboration by leading, facilitating and participating in the selection and design of clinical information systems that impact nursing across the entire continuum of care. Works across the nursing ecosystem to identify and implement projects that will contribute to the efficiency and wellbeing of the nurse. Develops, implements and/or sustains efforts to identify opportunities for optimization of current systems and works with key operational stakeholders to prioritize optimization initiatives. Analyzes data related to safety, quality and efficiency of clinical systems to identify opportunities for improvement and engages with operational stakeholders to determine the best approach to address solutions that result in better outcomes. Leads system level core teams focused on the delivery of technology to support highly reliable and safe patient care.
- In partnership with the CNIO, serves as a strategic liaison for HIT efforts representing nursing needs.
- Works across the organization at various levels to align nursing informatics initiatives with the organization’s strategic goals. Collaborates with leadership across the system and in all care settings to identify opportunities and prioritize projects related to nursing informatics
- Maintains relationships with key business partners and other senior industry leaders in order to leverage best practices, evaluate emerging technologies and distribute knowledge internally to inform plans and strategies
- Provides critical analysis and evaluation of HIT and recommends nursing perspective and influence on clinical systems, process, and workflow to ensure achievement of positive patient outcomes.
- Using the knowledge and skills of clinical practice, leads nursing in the design, standardization, and execution of technology-enabled process change that maximizes patient safety, quality of care and operational efficiency.
- Contributes to the development of clinical systems strategies in collaboration with the CNIO and other senior nursing/clinical, medical informatics and operational leaders.
- Acts as a change agent in the identification, development, planning, implementation and value measurement of informatics strategies to support quality patient care and professional practice.
- Incorporates nursing research and evidence-based nursing knowledge into nursing informatics practice.
- Works with vendors to proactively strategize on development and/or enhancement of clinical information system solutions to meet organizational business needs
- Works with clinical and IT leaders in evaluating the effectiveness of technologies and workflows that impact clinical users.
- Collaborates with nurse leaders in planning and implementing program expansion and growth, including new business ventures, construction, and projects.
- Assesses and supports evolving patient care delivery models impacting the continuum of care
- Develops programs to foster a competent, technology-enabled nursing workforce
- Advances the use of health IT to improve patient safety by contributing to the design and development of decision support tools.
- Collaborates in partnership with information technology leadership to leverage predictive analytics tools to identify at-risk patients and populations.
- Collaborates with administration, medical staff and IT leaders to translate clinician requirements into coordinated specifications for new clinical solutions
- Collaborates with the Clinical and Medical Informatics teams to ensure that teams are aligned through all stages of the clinical system lifecycle from design to implementation and support

Qualifications
- License/Registration/Certification: Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member lives or practices; ANCC Nursing Informatics Certification preferred, but not required.
- Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing or BSN with Master's degree
Experience
- 5 years of direct Nursing Informatics related experience required. 2-3 years Leadership experience preferred, but not required. 3-5 years of in depth experience using or configuring the Epic EHR. Nursing informatics, clinical operations and workflow analysis, change management, clinical systems analysis, design and implementation.
- The successful candidate will possess a wide range of needed personality traits, work habits, and social skills necessary to perform effectively within the organization. This individual will possess both personal and professional integrity and a professional appearance and presentation.
- Knowledge of clinical nursing work flows in multiple care areas and across the continuum of care.
- Ability to analyze complex clinical operations and structure processes to facilitate decision-making regarding clinical information systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels, including individual team members, management, executives and other organizations. Skills and demonstrated experience in establishing excellent working relationships and strategic partnerships with various teams and executives across a large organization to achieve a shared vision, values, and objectives.
- An understanding of health care delivery and health care dynamics within a large integrated health care system.
- Skills in managing multiple, conflicting, complex, simultaneous demands in geographically dispersed areas.
- Excellent presentation, analytical, organizational, and negotiating skills.
