Summary: Fall River Health Services (FRHS) is a comprehensive healthcare system, which services Fall River County and the surrounding areas in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota . Description: The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the evaluation, planning, directing and administering of occupational therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician. The incumbent administers treatments and occupational agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease of physical disability. This position assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education/Experience: A graduate of an occupational therapy program that is approved by the Council on Medical Education in collaboration with the America Occupational Therapy Association. Two years acute care, long-term care or home health experience preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Good organizational skills, communications skills, teaching skills, and the ability to adapt to changing situations. Demonstrates an ability to access and use information in meaningful ways.
  • Other Qualifications/Certification/Licensure: Current license to practice in the state of service delivery. Current CPR certification. Current BCLS certification. Access to reliable transportation to ensure ability to provide service to all clients and to all areas serviced by the facility. Valid State Drivers License. Proof of automobile insurance that meets at least the minimum state mandated insurance requirements.
  • Behavioral Competencies: Support Fall River Health Services vision and mission. Demonstrates an ability to function successfully in a team environment. Exhibits courteous, compassionate and respectful treatment of internal and external customers. Displays a positive attitude and flexibility in changing situations. Demonstrates and ability to problem solve and suggest solutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

  • Directs the Occupational Therapy Department, including assistants/aides.
  • Performs an appropriate assessment of each patient, as related to the therapy required and provided and reassessments, as per policy. This includes pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general public population. Observes and evaluates treatment effects. Recommends change to physician, if needed.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients’ needs and hospital policy is followed
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency of occupational therapy modalities. Manages and operated equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety. Maintains records pertinent to the operation of the department. Meets current documentation standards and policies.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patient and family. Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administrative team.
  • Demonstrates and ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Consults other departments, as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities. Participates in educational staff performance improvement in-services. Assists with orientation and in-service training for certified department staff members. Participated win guidance and educational programs.
