Position Overview:
The Novelis Buckhannon team is seeking an Occupational Health Nurse. The person in this role will report to the EHS Leader and will be responsible for health and safety initiatives and programs, assisting in the development and implementation of safety/occupational health controls, policies, and procedures to achieve and maintain full compliance with regulatory, permit or license requirements in the specific areas of Occupational Health & Safety.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:

  • Ensure that all medical equipment and supplies are maintained and calibrated in accordance with applicable company, local, State and Federal regulations.
  • Coordinates and handles worker’s compensation claims including physician referrals and communications to all parties, statutory reporting, internal case management, etc.
  • Coordinate care with onsite and offsite medical and emergency rescue personnel as needed and identify and maintain positive working relationships with external medical providers and claims adjusters.
  • Updates and maintains all required healthcare documentation including nursing documentation, OSHA logs, insurance, and workers' compensation, NIRS program and return to work/restricted duty notations.
  • Implement and lead plant drug testing program and pre-employment physicals.
  • Keep plant leadership personnel apprised of injuries/illnesses and work restrictions.
  • Lead plant Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and cessation programs.
  • Maintain secure, confidential, and up-to-date medical records.
  • Develop and promote onsite wellness activities, Coordinate annual Health and Wellness Fair, Biometric Screenings along with annual blood drives.
  • Develop and provide training for CPR, First Aid, Blood borne Pathogens.
  • Key resource on medical/health related issues for employees.
  • Assist EHS team with coordination of qualitative and quantitative industrial hygiene and noise monitoring assessments.
  • Coordinate Respiratory Protection Program requirements such as fit testing and pulmonary function evaluations.
  • Assist with plant Ergonomics Program.
  • Ensure Occupational Health Program is current and work to continuously improve the program initiatives by benchmarking standard processes.
  • Ensure all plant emergency equipment (first aid kits, AEDs) are stocked and maintained.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the site Hearing Conservation Program including scheduling annual testing and results evaluation, training and instruction, auditing, and compliance.
  • Ensure Blood borne Pathogens Program follows all applicable regulations including collection and disposal of all medical/biohazard waste, development of Exposure Control Plan and Hepatitis B vaccinations.
  • Mentor employees on programs and act as lead representative for audits on these programs.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) certification required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as an Occupational Health Nurse.
  • Minimum of five (5) years current nursing experience.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills and ability to work with various levels of the organization.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written. Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Firm dedication to confidentiality, integrity, and credibility.
  • Proficient in computer software – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other appropriate software.
  • Case management experience.
  • Ability to drive accountability.

Location Profile:

The Buckhannon facility opened in 1999 to serve the electrical conductor industry and other light-gauge applications primarily 1350 and 1100 alloy products. Since then capabilities have expanded to include the manufacture of 5052 6061 and 3003 alloys for cookware products. Products are produced for mill finish electrical conductors cookware products packaging and distribution. Buckhannon is considered a niche shop employing around 70 people and processing a wide range of products in smaller quantities for many markets and customers.
