POSITION DESCRIPTION :
The Wisconsin State Fair Park (WSFP) is seeking an experienced and qualified individual to supervise and coordinate the open beef shows at the Fair. This individual will act as the liaison between Wisconsin State Fair, the open beef industry, and exhibitors.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE :
This role is an unclassified, Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system. Annual hours worked in this position will not exceed 1039 hours.

COMPENSATION :
The hourly wage is $17.00 per hour.

WHO CAN APPLY :
This position is open to all State of Wisconsin residents who meet the outlined criteria.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Pre – Fair: (June 1 to early August – approximately 20 hours total)
    • Assist Fair management with entry and exhibitor questions.
    • Assist with arrival, stalling and release plans as requested.
    • Onboard a qualified staff to assist with Fair operations (4 – 6 employees).
    • Submit employee schedules to management.
    • Assist with all required employee paperwork as requested.
    • Provide information for specific work orders or special award requests.

State Fair: (August – approximately 12-14-hour shifts daily, over 4 consecutive days)
    • Supervise and assist with the arrival and release of exhibitors (traffic).
    • Provide positive customer service to exhibitors while at the Fair.
    • Consistently abide by and enforce all Fair regulations and policies.
    • Coordinate the efficient operation of beef shows/programs.
    • Assist entry office with updating entry and show information.
    • Proof competition results before entry office releases official results.
    • Assist Wisconsin State Fair Animal Health experts, ethics staff, and other Agriculture department staff as requested.
    • Serve as Wisconsin State Fair liaison to exhibitors and industry.
    • Supervise all open beef division employees.
    • Gather exhibitor suggestions for show enhancements.

Post-Fair: (Late August – approximately 5 hours total)
    • Review, analyze and submit exhibitor suggestions.
    • Submit a written evaluation of show operations to Fair Management.
    • Submit a written request for program improvements and enhancements to Fair Management.
    • Complete an evaluation of WSF staff under Superintendent’s direct supervision.

Year Round: (October 1 through June 1 – approximately 20-30 hours total)
    • Represent Wisconsin State Fair at applicable industry events.
    • Assist in developing, implementing and proofing rules and regulations.
    • Assist in securing show and/or award sponsorships if applicable.
    • Attend State Fair employee meetings/training as required.
    • Assist State Fair Management with industry knowledge.
    • Communicate with various State Fair staff as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS :
    • Knowledge of the open beef industry and similar industry events.
    • Knowledge of how to run livestock shows.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Strong organization skills.
    • Ability to work well with employees, exhibitors and volunteers.
    • Ability to make important decisions and handle pressure.
    • Ability to work long hours in an outside environment.
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Ability to work long and irregular hours including nights and weekends as dictated by the venue schedule is essential.

SPECIAL NOTES :
Candidate must be able to work during the annual Wisconsin State Fair; for 2023 these dates are August 3 – 13, 2023. Prior to appointment to this position, the candidate will be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check.

Anyone working at WSFP is subject to the rules and regulations related to entering WSFP competitions and must abide by the State of Wisconsin’s ethics and conflict of interest statutes and administrative rules as developed by the State of Wisconsin and State Fair Park Board of Directors. This includes that if offered this position, you or your immediate family cannot be actively selling animals for show at Wisconsin State Fair or providing any type of show consultation services and your immediate family members cannot show at Wisconsin State Fair.
