Core Facility Services has a career opportunity for an O&M Technician III at the MPH Rockaway Peakers Power Plant in Far Rockaway, NY.
The O&M Technician is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of assets at the power plant and ensuring the equipment is in constant operational readiness. The incumbent will support the Sr. O&M Technician in performing maintenance and repair of plant equipment, including instruments, control systems, electrical systems, and balance of plant mechanical equipment. The individual will support compliance programs for health, safety, and the environment.
Job Functions:
- Assist the Sr. O&M Technician with the performance of corrective & preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems.
- Assist the Sr. O&M Technician with troubleshooting and testing mechanical, electronic, and electrical systems.
- Successfully complete company-sponsored training courses and training qualification problems as required.
- Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant documents - manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
- Interact with Operations staff to improve maintenance effectiveness.
- Assist the Sr. O&M Technician with performing high voltage switching operations and lock out tag out as dictated by plant operation/maintenance requirements or as mandated by the system operator
- Input inventory information (adds/deletes) to maintain accurate CMMS inventory.
- Complete annual audit of inventory
- Complete the operating events log for submission to the ISO.
- Utilize CMMS to create and manage all types of work orders to support plant reliability.
- Assist in maintaining housekeeping, safety, and environmental compliance at the site
- Assist in ensuring site compliance and reporting with regulatory departments.
- Practice proper Lock-out/Tag-out procedures and follow all company safety procedures.
- Respond immediately to plant operating and safety emergencies
- When needed, assist in off-loading plant deliveries adhering to all plant safety guidelines
- Technician must perform duties in such a way as to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.
- Perform off-line operating inspections
- Complete other tasks as requested by the Plant Manager
Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- Associate Degree in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, and two years’ work experience as a technician in a related industry desirable.
- Five years’ experience in instrumentation/controls/electrical test equipment and electrical maintenance in a power plant or equivalent.
- Knowledge of power plant equipment such as motors, pumps, fans, generators, fluid systems, AC and DC electrical distribution
- Understanding fundamental principles of mathematics, AC, and DC electrical theory, heat transfer and fluid flow, thermodynamics, chemistry, and metallurgy.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Be familiar with procurement (material and labor) and inventory practices
- Sound knowledge of power plant safety, especially in areas such as high energy systems, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, heavy equipment operations, etc.
- Ability to operate valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other devices associated with power plant equipment as well as essential hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, rigging equipment, and other implements.
- Ability to efficiently use Microsoft suite of applications, MicroGADS, or similar applications
Certification of Fitness (FDNY) – must obtain and maintain
- C91 - Supervision of Storage, Handling, and Use of Flammable or Combustible Liquids
- C92 - Supervision of Flammable/Combustible Liquids
- G29 - Safe Use, Handling, Storage, and Compression of Flammable Gases with Pressure Above 6 Per Square Inch
- Any other certificate of fitness required by the governing agency

- Work alone and in an unsupervised environment.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in high noise and/or hot-cold temperature extremes.
- Ability to work in proximity to high voltage and/or rapidly rotating equipment and in cramped and/or confined conditions requiring overall flexibility, manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and occasional heavy lifting.
- Excellent oral and written communications
- Ability to work on your feet for 12-hour periods, overtime, weekends, and holidays. On-call status (day and night) may be required.
- Ability to wear a respirator, hard hat, and hearing and eye protection.
- Able to lift 75 pounds.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift and manlift

Salary: $38/hr
