Job description

Imperial College’s Faculty of Medicine has ambitious plans to grow its online portfolio of educational programmes and activities. The establishment of a new Digital Education Office (DEO) now presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced operations manager to join the team in a role that will shape the set-up and then the running of the new unit.
Working closely with the Head of Digital Education, the Head of Business Development and the Academic Lead for Digital Education, as Operations Manager you will support the delivery of the Faculty’s Digital Education Strategy while managing the DEO’s day-to-day operational and project-focussed activities. You will motivate and manage a small team of project managers and the department administrator to provide seamless support for the DEO’s delivery of new online programmes, digital support for on-campus activity and digital innovation in teaching and learning.
This is a role that offers variety, access to ambitious and exciting projects and where it is unlikely that two days to be the same. While focus on structure, process, and policy is key, partner and stakeholder engagement will also be a critical part of what you do. Excellent interpersonal skills are a must, as is the ability to handle challenges and change with reason and diplomacy. While the role will suit a self-starter who can work independently in specific areas, a desire to motivate and enable others is essential to us collectively growing and developing our collegiate crew. If this sounds like you, please contact us today.

Duties and responsibilities

  • As Operations Manager for this busy team, you will oversee and manage DEO operations and programme of work, drawing on your experience in project management to engage with team leads and implement appropriate tools to track, monitor and evaluate projects and activity across the DEO.
  • A highly motivated and engaged manager, you will effectively line manage a small team of project managers and the DEO office administrator to ensure effective and smooth operational and administrative delivery.
  • Detail-focussed, you will support the DEO leads in the translation and delivery of the Faculty’s Digital Education Strategy, ensuring that office activity and projects are aligned with the strategy and College process and procedures.
  • Result-driven, you will support the development and delivery of new digital education products to optimise the Faculty’s offering while ensuring a viable and sustainable financial return.
  • Drawing on strong interpersonal skills, you will work with the Head of Business Development and Department leads, to manage the Faculty’s day-to-day relationship with third-party vendors.

Essential requirements

  • Professional management, business or project management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Project or relationship management experience, coordinating internal activities to meet deadlines and presenting to external audiences
  • Extensive experience of a high-level, lead/management role in higher education administration or operations
  • Experience of leading a team of administrative/operations staff
  • Highly numerate with advanced Excel and MS Office skills
  • For additional requirements, please refer to job description
