Job description
Assist with Upkeep of Parrot Aviary (PT – Late Afternoons)
Assistance is sought for the upkeep and care of 24 entertaining and energetic species of small to medium sized parrots. The parrots are my companion birds and are not for sale or kept for breeding or as a rescue operation.
The flock lives in an indoor aviary/bird room specially constructed for them at my residence, with access to plenty of sunshine and fresh air. Flock members are active and free-flighted in the aviary area daily.

- · Water and feeding bowls are removed, cleaned, and replaced;
- · Cage papers are sprayed, removed, and replaced.
- · The room is swept, vacuumed, and as the last step in the process, the floor is also steam cleaned.
The birds are out of their cages and being fed during this time, providing opportunities to interact with them.

- · Able to quickly learn routine daily cleaning tasks of cages and aviary, and some required handling of the flock members.

- Once a week the caretaker prepares the oral syringes for the supplements and medications.
- This caretaker would also assist with trimming of talons and beaks as needed, which requires learning how to properly hold the parrot.
- Medication preparation is a once weekly task that takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hours per week, preferably on weekends, and can be combined timewise with the other tasks and session(s) listed above.
- Experience in preparation of oral syringes and other medications for veterinary purposes necessary.
- Additional fee provided.
Training of all tasks provided. Educational materials regarding the species, the individual birds, their biology and behaviors are available.
