PAARI was founded alongside the Gloucester Police Department Angel Initiative in June 2015 and has grown into a movement of more than 700 public safety partners in 34 states. Only 11% of people who need access to treatment for a substance use disorder receive care. Access to treatment is particularly difficult for individuals experiencing homelessness, unemployed individuals, low-income adults, formerly incarcerated adults, low-income veterans, and those with concurrent physical health issues and mental health disorders. Members of our National Recovery Corps will strengthen the ability of partnering law enforcement agencies to increase access to care and address addiction and other social determinants of health needs through non-arrest approaches. This program will place a VISTA in the Plymouth County HUB to help build, strengthen, and sustain police-led programs to reduce and prevent overdose deaths and help more people with opioid use disorder get into treatment and recovery. This position will be in Plymouth County, MA and will serve as part of a larger cohort of PAARI National Recovery Corps VISTAs, spread across the entire nation. This VISTA member will be working with the Plymouth County HUB to strengthen and build their community resource collaboration building to help those in the community at an elevated risk of harm. Individuals with lived experience with addictions, including those who are personally in recovery, are ideal candidates for these service positions.
Member Duties : Increase ability to serve more people, serve new groups of people, and/or engage in new or expanded strategies. Increase effectiveness in creating access to care for individuals with a substance use disorder with an understanding of the need for support in all of the social determinants of health. Increase ability to generate additional resources, such as funding, volunteers, and partnerships. Developing a project plan for increasing awareness and participation, community assessments, community awareness and engagement, expanding and strengthening partnerships with service providers, developing materials, developing policies and procedures, program development and delivery, technology use, developing data collection systems to aid in sustainability of the program.
