This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

The Alaska Department of Administration, Division of Alaska Public Offices Commission is recruiting for a Paralegal 1/2 located in Anchorage!
What you will be doing:
This position has daily interaction with a wide variety of people including elected and appointed state and local officials, members of state and local boards and commissions, and municipal clerks. It is fast paced with continually changing tasks and priorities.
Daily work includes tracking filing expectations through our online filing system, generating various notices of upcoming deadlines or delinquencies, assessing civil penalties for late-filed statements, working with support staff to assist filers with reporting questions and navigation of online filing, creating training materials and videos, drafting staff recommendations in response to appeals and exemption requests, and presenting recommendations to the Commission during public meetings.Our organization, mission, and culture:

- Formalized paralegal training resulting in a degree or certification is desired but not required. The incumbent may also have acquired research and analysis skills through equivalent experience in a legal environment, public advocacy environment, legislative environment or other research-oriented work environment requiring application of statutes and regulations as part of the daily work.

PARALEGAL 1:
Three years of clerical or technical experience in a law enforcement or law office environment. Experience should have included performance of case research and/or preparation of routine legal documents. The required experience includes such work as Law Office Assistant 1 or Criminal Justice Technician with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Certification from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved state paralegal training and education program.
OR
Graduation from an Associate of Arts program in paralegal, criminal justice or legal studies.
OR
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and certification in paralegal studies from a recognized program.
OR
Three years in any combination of post secondary education from an accredited college, and clerical or technical experience in a law enforcement or law office environment. Experience should have included performance of case research and/or preparation of routine legal documents. The required experience includes such work as Law Office Assistant 1 or Criminal Justice Technician with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal 1 month of experience).
PARALEGAL 2:
One year of experience as a Paralegal 1, Victim/Witness Paralegal 1, or Criminal Justice Technician 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
One year of study at an accredited school of law.
OR
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in paralegal, criminal justice, or legal studies.

- Three (3) professional references who have had supervisory responsibility over you. These references should include daytime contact phone numbers.

FLEXIBLE STAFFING
This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidate’s eligibility. If hired at the lower level, you will be promoted to the higher-level job class after completing the training plan and meeting the minimum qualifications.

If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of units completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements, if applicable. If utilizing this education you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. state university reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the state university. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
