Introduction

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for two contractual Paralegal II positions at the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development located in Lanham, Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

Position responsibilities primarily will include commercial lending, real estate transactions and litigation support. Job responsibilities will include but not be limited to: drafting pleadings, loan, and grant documents; assisting at loan closings; tracking and reviewing pre-closing and post-closing loan and grant documents; document and scheduling management; closing binder preparation; and general office support.

A hybrid remote telework and in-office schedule option may be available per Office of Attorney General’s policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years’ experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary drafting and reviewing legal documents on behalf of an attorney. Applicants shall have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word or comparable word processing and computer skills, organizational skills, and ability to consistently produce a high volume of work.

Note: Thirty college credit hours or a certificate in paralegal studies from an accredited college or law school may be substituted for the required experience.


DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:

1. Work experience using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

2. A real estate and litigation background.

The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract, and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12-month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
