DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of Allegany State Park, Red House Area Park Manager or their designee on the Maintenance Crew. Duties will include:
- Inspect, check and patrol park areas to detect unauthorized entries, vandalism, equipment failure, and maintenance problems.
- Perform general maintenance activities such as, but not limited to, fixing or replacing locks; repairing screens; repairing porch steps; minor plumbing repairs; interior and exterior painting; assist in repairing roads, paths, benches, trails, cabins, picnic shelters, and various equipment.
- Assist skilled or semi-skilled trades positions by performing a variety of supporting tasks.
- The incumbent will perform necessary pesticide control measures on an as needed basis in facility buildings, cabins, picnic areas, and campgrounds and document those control measures per NYS Department of Environmental Conservation requirements.
- May handle complaints or inquiries from park patrons and may supervise a small crew of lower level or seasonal staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
There are no education or experience requirements. Applicants must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Applicants must also be able to communicate effectively with other staff and with park patrons.
OPERATIONAL NEED:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License as a term and condition of employment.
- Must possess a NYS Pesticide Technician Certification, Category 7A, or obtain one within the probationary period, and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
- Must be available to work a variable schedule, including evenings, holidays and weekends as deemed necessary.
- Must be reliable, flexible, and willing to work in a team setting.
