Salary: Level I: $37,920 per year; $3,160 per month, SR-11, BU:03

Level II: $41,016 per year; $3,418 per month, SR-13, BU:03

Level III: $44,388 per year; $3,699 per month, SR-15, BU:03

This position independently performs complex billing and collection duties such as determining credit status, arranging for payment, crediting and collecting delinquent accounts and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

General Experience: Typing, stenographic, clerical work, cashiering, data input, customer service skills or any combination of these experiences which duties demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, standard office equipment; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly, observe differences in copy and proofread words and numbers quickly and accurately, and operate various kinds of office equipment; and ability to deal effectively with others in eliciting information and providing service.

Substitution of Education for General Experience: An Associate’s or Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university may substitute for all of the General Experience required. Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g. official transcript or diploma) should be submitted with the application to be given credit for education. A legible photocopy will be accepted. However, HMC reserves the right to request an official copy.

Specialized Experience: Work experience performing medical billing and collections in a hospital or long term care facility; interviewing patients and/or responsible persons to secure financial information, arranging for method of payment and extension of credit, and determining financial status; reviewing accounts for delinquent payments and contacting payer to seek payment.

Substitution of Specialized Experience: Work experience performing billing and collections in an organization (i.e., financial institution, retail, or hotel); interviewing persons to secure financial information, arranging for method of payment, extension of credit, reviewing accounts for delinquent payments and contacting payer to seek payment may substitute for one year of Specialized Experience.

Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays, based on hospital operations (services are provided 24/7).

MEDICAL/PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENT: Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, two-step tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
