Founded in Salem Oregon, Project ABLE provides peer-to-peer services and support for individuals recovering from mental health and co-occurring issues. The passion of 20 employees and more than 60 volunteers with lived experience creates a community of healing and recovery that impacts connects to more than 1,000 people each year. For 20 years people have found the Project ABLE community and services part of their journey to finding A Better Life Experience (ABLE).
In 2023 Project ABLE expects to open a new location and a 24/7 Peer Run Respite hospital alternative in Lincoln County, this will join our locations in Salem and McMinnville. The Chief of Staff role will work closely with the Executive Director (ED) to make sure that the healing atmosphere Project ABLE cultivates is running smoothly and effectively, and that staff needs are addressed as they come up.
Position Summary:
One on One Peer Support has been the core of the recovery community built at Project ABLE over the past 20 years. As a Peer Support Specialist Coordinator you will be working closely with Peer Support Specialists (both staff and volunteer) to ensure that the support provided is working for both the people receiving and providing support. This means that you need to be confidential, trustworthy, and a people person ready to help staff and volunteers navigate complex situations. In this position you will be building close relationships with attendees and volunteers, providing front desk coverage, and be in charge of our outreach efforts that aim to let new people know about the exciting work we do.
Position Responsibilities:
50% Peer Support Coordinator
- Volunteer Recruitment
- Follow up with volunteers not attending all volunteer meetings
- Provide Quarterly check ins with individuals receiving support
- Accesss and enter information into an online database.
- Filling in as Peer Support when PSS are not available.
- Building real meaningful relationships with volunteers is key!
- Facilitate groups and activities that promote recovery.
- Ensuring the great work our volunteers and staff are doing is being properly collected and recorded.
- Attend Volunteer/PSS meetings
Support other Coordinators
- Log all these interactions into the database
- Check in with Peer Support Specialists Monthly
- Providing mentorship and oversight to Peer Support Specialists and making sure that the relationships they have are healing and positive.
50% Other Work
- Provide limited support at the front desk
- Salem Location - Be our Resource and Outreach Guru
- Manage Social Service referrals both coming in from other agencies – and assist volunteers/peers in recommending services that may work for them or people they support.
Position Requirements:
- Candidate must have lived experience with mental health and/or addiction recovery and embody healing and recovery in the way they live their life.
- Candidate must be passionate about empowering people to find and live the life that they want to live.
- Candidate must willing to learn and try new things.
Experiences which strengthen your application:
- Certification as a Peer Support Specialist
- Experience as a Peer Support Specialist or Recovery Mentor (either staff or volunteer experience)
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and electronic)
- Skill and experience working in collaborative/team environments or working with volunteers
- Spanish speaking
