Per Diem Chaplain
- (3237746)General Overview:
The Per Diem Chaplain provides spiritual and emotional support to patients of all ages, family members, and hospital staff in accordance with the philosophy and goals of the department.
- Provides religious support and spiritual care to patients, family members, and hospital staff by regular visits on own initiative and by referral.
- Consults with other healthcare professionals in order to enhance patient care. Charts visits in the patient record.
- Collaborates with other members of the Spiritual Care team.
- Performs other duties as required, assigned, or negotiated.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:
- Clarity of pastoral identity and role in a nonsectarian institutional setting
- Knowledgeable about ministry to the sick in one’s own tradition, and to persons of diverse religious, educational, and cultural backgrounds
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to relate theology, behavioral sciences, and understanding of persons to help minister to patients/families in their struggles
- Good organizational skills
- Prior experience as a Chaplain strongly preferred
- Minimum of 1 CPE Units required; 4 units preferred.
- A spiritual life grounded in some form of contemplative practice and reflection
- Compassion for the sick and their families
- Maturity and ability to function under stressful conditions
- Resourcefulness and cooperation in relationship with others
- Commitment to personal and professional growth
- Fluently bilingual and bicultural strongly preferred
