Job Summary and Qualifications

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident is responsible for providing complete pharmacy services in coordination and cooperation with departmental professional and support staff, consistent with departmental policies and procedures for operations and clinical practice, and meeting all the requirements and obligations of pharmacists on staff. This includes monitoring patient medication regimens and providing appropriate interventions. The PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident actively participates in rotation activities, including team meetings, rounds, and other interdisciplinary conferences/meetings that occur.

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident is responsible for developing, operating, and managing the PGY-1 residency. This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • ASHP accreditation process
  • Preceptor training, evaluation, and certification
  • Recruitment and match process
  • Orientation and schedule
  • Evaluation by preceptors and overall evaluation of residents

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Interpret orders and transcribe or verify them accurately and efficiently into the pharmacy computer system
  • Accurately compound and dispense pharmaceuticals
  • Monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, and appropriateness of drug and dose
  • Provide clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners. Suggest appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed.
  • Sustain the hospital formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchanges, and promoting rational drug therapy selection
  • Attend and actively participate in multidisciplinary and bedside rounds
  • Complete drug utilization reviews to promote rational drug therapy and implement improvements identified
  • Provide accurate and timely medication information to healthcare staff and patients
  • Document all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely
  • Support and participate in the goals of the organization’s quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety program, including, but not limited to, National Patient Safety Goals, Core Measures, and HCAHPS medication-related initiatives.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or Pharm.D. from Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited degree program OR
  • One in the process of pursuing accreditation OR
  • Have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).
  • A current Nevada license to practice pharmacy is required.
  • If not already licensed, you must obtain a Nevada State Board of Pharmacy Intern license
  • Must obtain a Nevada pharmacist licensure no later than ninety days after the start date, per ASHP Standards for PGY-1 Residency Programs.
  • BLS and ACLS certification no later than 90 days after start date Experience:
  • Experiential clinical rotation experience in an acute care setting
