Job description
Summary
Performs a variety of duties involved in the collection, identification, and labeling of venous and capillary blood specimens from patients for health care providers at the patient service center(s), main hospital facility, and various client sites, according to established methods and procedures. Responsible for handling of all laboratory specimens, performs capillary glucose testing, and completes clerical duties associated with laboratory specimen collection. Reports to the Laboratory Patient Service Center Supervisor(s) and is accountable to all Laboratory Management Team members.
Education
High school or equivalent (GED).
Certification, Registration, and Licensure
None required.
Experience
Training in phlebotomy procedures preferred and must have the ability to work full time for the first 3-4 weeks in order to be trained.
Responsibilities

Obtains and processes venous and capillary blood samples required for laboratory analysis from patients of all ages upon request.

Provides customer service to patients and stakeholders of the laboratory department.

Assists in training of phlebotomy students, nursing or laboratory personnel, as directed, in regards toobtaining, handling and transport of specimens, and other areas related to phlebotomy.

Demonstrates compliance with corporate, departmental and job-specific requirements.

Identifies problems related to work activities, including involvement in Quality Assurance and QualityImprovement efforts within the department.

Demonstrates proficiency in utilization of the hospital/laboratory information and technology systems.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Hours
As needed at least one or two shifts per week.
Shifts are day-shift and will vary depending upon the needs of the department, however currently there are no shifts that start earlier than 6am and none that end later than 5:15pm. Typical shift examples would be 6am-1:30pm, 7am-3:45pm, 7am-12noon, 8:45am-5:45pm, etc.
Primary location is at the Epsom location, but will also help provide coverage for other locations in the Concord area.
