Job Description:
Yuba College is seeking an equity-minded, dynamic, collaborative, and innovative instructor to serve as full-time faculty in earth science and/or natural resources. This is an open position, and we are seeking an instructor who can continue to support and enhance a multidisciplinary science program at the college.As one of two colleges in the Yuba Community College District, Yuba College provides high quality career education and transfer preparation programs to our community. Our main campus is located in Marysville, CA, and our Sutter County Center is located in Yuba City, CA. The area is an emerging region engaged in community revitalization with close proximity to the Sierra Nevada for outdoor recreation and access to the metropolitan areas of Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area.The College is excited about its status as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and serves our smaller local communities surrounding Yuba and Sutter counties, including Arboga, Gridley, Live Oak, Nicolas, Plumas Lake, Wheatland, etc. The College serves over 8,000 unduplicated students annually in multiple associate's degree and certificate programs. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience or potential to be an excellent instructor, leader, and collaborator at a community college. As part of providing quality earth science and/or natural resources instruction, this faculty member will implement effective assessment processes; participate in didactic and/or laboratory instruction, as appropriate; and maintain current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development. Additionally, this faculty member will engage in curriculum design, program administration, and academic advising.We encourage applicants who can teach in two or more of the following areas to apply: earth science, ecology, environmental science, fire science, forestry, geographic information systems, soil science, water resources and watershed management. Our goal is to promote career-minded students into local and regional jobs, and to build a natural resources foundation for students looking to transfer.

Essential Duties Summary: ESSENTIAL DUTIES : The person selected will be expected to:
Organize and instruct, both lecture and laboratory course in lower-division earth science and/or natural resource courses for both majors and non-majors;

Teach a range of courses in the Yuba Community College District curriculum;

Prepare course syllabi and outlines;

Develop and maintain multidisciplinary curriculum, including transfer/articulation agreements with colleges and universities, participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;

Develop classroom presentations using multimedia tools;

Use standards of student feedback that are clear, fair and followed consistently throughout the course;

Maintain instruments or other core teaching tools used in teaching science;

Supervise students in off-campus activities when participation is expected as part of a course requirement or where such supervision is part of the instructors load;

Inspires students to engage in subject matter;

Maintain currency in field(s) of expertise;

Teach day, evening, and/or weekend teaching assignments;

Work cooperatively with staff in related disciplines;

Participate in department, division, and college-wide committees and meetings;

Participate in regional advisory committee meetings as needed for program development;

Participate in marketing and student outreach and recruitment for program development; and

Participate in the shared-governance process.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The person selected will be expected to have knowledge and skills in earth science and/or natural resources, including:

Teaching common lower-division courses in earth science and/or natural resources;

Varied teaching and learning strategies;

Best practices for teaching science; and

Safety protocols for science.

REQUIRED DUTIES:
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Required Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications for instructors at California Community Colleges: (All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications must be from accredited institutions.)

Bachelors degree AND two years of full-time related experience; OR

Associates degree AND six years of full-time related experience

OR

The equivalent

Possess a California Community College life credential in the subject matter area of forestry, natural resources and related technologies.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to applicants with:

Masters or Higher in earth and/or natural resources,

Teaching experience and/or professional background in earth science and/or natural resources;

Teaching experience and/or coursework in geographic information systems or environmental related field research;

Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;

A commitment to the needs of a diverse student population ;

Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;

Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;

Teaching experience dealing with the special needs of students who are not majoring in science

Commitment to professional growth including demonstrated willingness to improving teaching methodology;

Background in the use of computers and scientific technology in the classroom/laboratory.

Physical Demands:
Range/Step: Class 2, Step 1 to Class 6, Step 10

Salary Range: $59,025 - $95,002/YR.

Benefits Information:
BENEFITS/SALARY: The District offers a comprehensive benefits package for employees and dependent, valued at over $20,000 annually with a $310.50 monthly out of pocket expense to employees or dependents for monthly premiums. The package includes health, dental, vision, two (2) life insurance policies and an Employee Assistance program.

Additional benefits include contributions to the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS), 457/403b options, 10 sick days and a 178 day contract.
