Police Officer

Type: Full Time

Salary/Pay Rate: $38,000 with full benefits

The Town of Sharpsburg is seeking applicants interested in a rewarding career in law enforcement and currently accepting applications for a full-time police officer position.

The Sharpsburg Police Department embraces the concept of community policing while providing police services, including traffic enforcement, criminal law enforcement, emergency response, criminal investigations, and special events. The Department serves a community of approximately 2,000 residents and is located between Rocky Mount and Elm City. The Town borders three-county jurisdictions of Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson. The Sharpsburg Police Department is a small department with a budget for ten full-time officers. The Department operates on a 12-hour shift with two officers on each shift when fully staffed.

Applicants must have obtained a high school diploma or have passed the G.E.D. Applicants must have completed Basic Law Enforcement Training and passed the state BLET exam, be at least 20 years of age, pass a comprehensive background investigation, and must possess an N.C. driver's license at the time of appointment. Applicants with previous law enforcement experience, advanced education, or advanced training in criminal justice or related field experience are preferred but not required. The starting pay for an applicant with no experience is $38,000. However, the Town of Sharpsburg may offer a higher salary for those applicants with advanced education, training, and or experience.
