PrePress Technician II

PURPOSE: Operate all equipment required in producing printing plates.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate the Platesetters, including loading plates, proper start-up & shutdown and general troubleshooting.
- Operate the processing equipment including adding/changing chemistry, clearing jams and general troubleshooting.
- Operate the Nela punch/bend equipment including in-feed conveyors and general troubleshooting of all common problems.
- Operate and effectively utilize the NewsWay X workflow software including a full understanding of setting up jobs, resending plates, adjusting set-ups on deadline and identifying problems with PDFs.
- Operate all CTP imaging equipment and in-line punch/bend equipment in a safe and proper fashion.
- Communicate with sending sites regarding problems, lateness, etc.
- Train new employees as needed in all facets of the imaging dept. operation.
- Monitor plates for errors including proper developing, folios, page marriages & missing elements.
- Monitor supplies and inform PrePress Supervisor (Manager in AUB) when inventory is low.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent with good PC skills (Windows, Microsoft Excel).
- Mechanical ability: i.e. ability to monitor equipment, recognize and rectify malfunctions.
- Able to lift 25 lbs (plates, chemicals) and handle chemicals in a safe and proper fashion.
- Employee must be a team player with good interpersonal skills, communication skills, and demonstrated willingness to work with others.
- Exposure to chemicals & machinery.
PrePress technicians are also expected to generate job tickets utilizing Microsoft Excel, as well as printing and distributing those job tickets to the appropriate departments.
Periodic cleaning, loading of plates and documenting of job times are responsibilities as well.
Strong communication skills are required, while familiarity with Newsway and Microsoft Office programs are preferred.
