The Adel DeSoto Minburn Community School District is seeking a highly motivated, quality applicant to work as a program associate in a preschool classroom at Adel Elementary. Adel Elementary is a preschool through first grade building.
The associate role is one to assist the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students to help them achieve appropriate skill levels.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- Hold a paraeducator license - generalist and early childhood certificates. The candidate can be currently enrolled in, actively participating in, or demonstrating progress toward the certifications. Completion must be done within two years of employment.
- Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work well with students, staff and parents
Some duties of this position include:
- Working with individual students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assisting the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information regarding students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
- Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information regarding an individual student.
- Guides each student toward making appropriate choices and accepting responsibility for their own behavior.
- Supervises students outside during recess.
