Montessori House of Children has served its community in the heart of San Francisco since 1976. Our Montessori school has provided and promoted a high-quality, early childhood education and fostered a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment for all families. Dr. Maria Montessori, Italy's first female doctor, opened Casa dei Bambini (Children's House) in order to provide a high-quality education to low-income families in Rome. Montessori House of Children prides itself on sustaining Dr. Montessori's mission and legacy by opening our doors to all families in our community despite socioeconomic status and cultural and ethnic background.

The Position: Looking for an experienced Lead Toddler / Preschool Teacher.

This is a full-time position with the hours of 8:00am - 4:00pm

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Follow the Montessori philosophy to create an atmosphere that encourages appropriate social-emotional development
  • Developing a meaningful and collaborative relationship with each child and their family
  • Being warm, nurturing, and sincere to all children
  • Helping children feel safe, secure, and welcome in their learning environment
  • Facilitating the care of children’s basic needs
  • Accepting each child as an individual
  • Having growing awareness of each child’s social, emotional, language, cognitive, gross, and fine motor development
  • Making contact with each individual family on a fairly regular basis
  • Presenting a friendly and approachable demeanor to children and families
  • Acting professionally and ensuring confidentiality
  • Provide necessary written information to parents
  • Facilitating social interactions
  • Facilitating child-centered problem-solving
  • Planning a stimulating and balanced environment
  • Planning stimulating and varied activities
  • Planning with the needs of children in mind
  • Create monthly, age appropriate, and developmentally appropriate Montessori Lesson Plans

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift from 25 lbs. (often) to 50 lbs. (rarely)
  • Ability to transition from standing to kneeling to squatting to sitting, including on the floor, to set up napping equipment, activities for children, and to engage with children (often)
  • Diapering experience required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 ECE units
  • One or more years of classroom experience, preferably in Montessori
  • Fingerprint clearance
  • CPR-First Aid certification (a plus)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
