About Houston-Galveston Area Council

The Houston-Galveston Area Council is one of the largest regional planning commissions in the country with a diverse service area of 13 counties and more than 7 million people. We are the pulse of our region addressing issues that cross city limits and county lines every single day.

What will I be doing?

ü Leading the development, expansion, and implementation of transportation safety programs for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists that have impact and reach throughout the region

ü Coordinating with State and local governments on Safety Programs, Incident Management, and hurricane evacuation planning

ü Assisting with managing the Safety, Transportation Systems Maintenance and Operations and Transportation Incident Management Programs

ü Building foundations with community organizations, local agencies, schools, and other stakeholders for increasing awareness of regional safety and traffic management challenges and programs

ü Drafting memorandums, letters, documentation, progress reports, articles, and annual reports

ü Providing technical assistance to regional partners developing safety infrastructure projects by coordinating fulfillment of requests for data and analysis support

ü Developing and delivering educational and marketing materials to impact transportation safety and increase awareness of regional motorist assistance programs and hurricane evacuation plans

ü Producing and working with colleagues to interpret data, charts, maps, and reports

ü All facets of project management, including developing scopes of work, budgets, and timelines; and consultant oversight, including reviewing deliverables, invoices, and progress reports

Key Qualifications

ü Experience with project management, focused on executing transportation-related projects

ü Knowledge of transportation planning principles and practices, including marketing and outreach

ü Excellent verbal (in person, online, and over the phone), visual, and written communication skills

ü Demonstrated interest in improving transportation safety and incident management

ü Experience in development and execution of safety, corridor, and access management planning

ü Consensus building among and identification of stakeholders

ü Experience in researching, evaluating, and interpreting complex information and analyzing, preparing, and organizing technical/statistical reports and documents

ü Strong project management, communication, and presentation skills

Do you have

ü Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study

ü 5 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, schools or in job related duties
