Epic Clinical EMR helps improve surgeon productivity, OR utilization, and data access in both acute and outpatient surgical environments. It provides scheduling, pre-operative anesthesia, documentation, and follow-up activities. Surgeons can plan for an entire case from one screen, including entry of pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative orders.
Epic Anesthesia streamlines the anesthesiologist s work for efficiency and patient safety. The system provides efficient charting optimized for touch-screen monitors, guiding pre-surgery assessment, pre-op, intra-op, and post-op documentation. Remote monitoring allows several patients to be supervised from a single location, while infusion pump integration and embedded perfusion workflows improve safety and efficiency.

Part of the EpicCare Inpatient suite, Inpatient Orders is used to place orders, sign orders, find orders and share order details. Application support will also include Provider Documentation and Epic Infection Control.

Role Description
The Principal Trainer is responsible for the development of Epic application-specific trainings, including the development of classroom and web-based training content, the build of the training data in the environment and executing the train-the-trainer program for credentialed trainers. As needed, Principal Trainers will deliver in-classroom training.

Qualifications

Education
Preferred: Bachelor s degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience
Minimum: Associate s degree with three 3 or more years of related work experience
Work Experience:
Preferred: Three 3 years relevant experience in a health care setting
Minimum: One 1 year relevant experience
Operational experience in application area is preferred
Preference for knowledge of current inpatient workflows and processes
Demonstrated interest in supporting the development and build of the application
Demonstrated interest in supporting the development and build of the application

Licenses and Certifications
Minimum: Obtaining applicable certification will be an expectation of the role
Applicant is expected to maintain certification as current by completing New Version Training NVT, as applicable
Nurse experience and licensure preferred

Essential Functions:
The Principal Trainer is the primary contact for the development of application-specific trainings, including training materials development and management. In addition to the duties discussed in the Role Description, the Principal Trainer is responsible for the following:

1 Workflow Analysis and Curriculum Design and Development:
Assisting in the documentation and tracking of decisions regarding RWJBH base build functionality versus what will be reconfigured throughout Alignment sessions
Participating in Alignment and Adoption sessions
o Pre-session, align application specific lesson plans with session topics
o Post-session, record functionality and workflow decisions
Assisting in the identification of end-users role and headcount requiring training on applicable Epic application
Reviewing Epic s Training Wheels to gain an understanding of the lesson plan matrix development required
Reviewing the e-learning tools that will be available to end-users
Identifying gaps in Training Wheels content or availability and what is required for RWJBH workflows/functionality
Developing training course catalog with descriptions by end-user role
Shadowing the roles to be trained if not familiar with departmental role to develop an understanding of end-user job functions/workflows and to create crosswalk documents illustrating the gap between the current and future states
Developing role specific lesson plans that include workflow driven teaching scenarios and with sample patient data in the training environment to support the scenario
Developing and implementing an end-user curriculum, including facilitator s guides, playground practice exercises, participants manuals/workbooks, e-learning modules, quick start guides, tip sheets and workflow bulletins, F1 functionality Epic s context-sensitive help function
Designing and developing end-user competency exams
Developing and participating in curriculum review process that includes build analysts, SMEs, and Epic AC/AMs for Good Install requirements
Completing the Training Environment build create all users, patients, scenarios orders, schedules, etc. for each role trained
Utilizing the following additional tools from Epic for development of the training environment:
o Auto Resulter provide fake results in training patient charts in real time
o Patient Duplicator/Mitosis tools to duplicate master training patients
o Patient Teleporter tool to move patient information from one environment to another
Developing plan to quickly analyze and execute end-user refresher training based upon identified gaps during go-live

2 Train the Trainer Program and Management:
Working with the Training Project Manager to develop the Credentialed Trainer CT program
o Supporting schedule development for both application specific sessions and general administration i.e. LMS, etc. sessions
o Developing schedule for practice teach backs and paneling presentations
Executing Credentialed Trainer CT program:
o Training CTs how to train end-users Train the Trainer review all classroom and web-based curriculum
o Facilitating teach back sessions and provide feedback to CTs
o Validating CT competency to train end-users test and presentation to panel
Assigning CTs to class schedule
Delivering super user training

3 Training Execution and End-User Support:
Managing and monitoring the execution of end-user training
o Managing CT class assignments daily
o Delivering end-user training as needed
o Providing support to CTs during end-user training i.e. troubleshooting environment issues, etc.
Designing and developing the methodology for tracking and reporting end-user training statistics e.g. attendance, competency, success rate, etc.
In collaboration with Security Analysts and Application Leads, developing process for distribution of Epic User IDs based upon competency exam results
Assisting in the development of an ongoing education program based on regular analysis of data pertaining to end-user competence and confidence in using key and advanced functions of the system
At Go-Live, Principal Trainers will be:
o Providing one-on-one or remedial training for end-users as needed
o Attending go-live triage meetings to solicit and facilitate end-user feedback on system
o Developing just-in-time tip sheets
Being flexible in terms of work schedule management and accessibility during training delivery and Go-Live
Providing go-live support for users on new applications, including functionality
Providing on-call support for application through go-live and post go-live
