Job Summary
Supports private wealth teams by assisting in the management of portfolios of client credit exposure, both consumer and commercial type, on an ongoing basis including assistance with deal negotiations, structuring, application, and underwriting credit requests including new requests, renewals, and modifications in conjunction with the Retail Lending Center, Commercial Lending Center, Credit Risk Management, and Regional Credit pathways. Conducts credit monitoring events (e.g., quarterly/annual review) as the credit expert within the first line of defense and manages the clearing of exceptions. Monitors existing credit on a scheduled basis for issues or concerns including resolution of Securities Backed Line of Credit margin call situations. Works with Private Wealth Advisors and clients to manage proposed credit requests. Recommends credit structures while ensuring quality and profitability of assigned portfolio. Ensures adherence to the Synovus credit risk philosophy, risk appetite and lending strategies. Serves as an additional point of client contact, maintaining a high level of responsiveness. Navigates a wide variety of financial structures, credit scenarios and financial analysis situations. Communicates risk and return with Private Wealth partners. Collaborates with private wealth teams on loan closings to ensure proper documentation of new and amended deals as well as waivers and modifications.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts analysis and structuring of credit requests for clients and prospects. Develops client assessments including in-depth analyses of financial data and other information provided by the client. Conducts projection modeling, stress testing and other analyses using research and evaluations from a wide variety of sources. Spreads financial statements and works with Dual Risk Rating team as needed. Conducts research to determine credit quality, character and soundness including analysis of extensive statistical data and financial statements, sensitivity analysis, industry analysis, guarantor analysis, and management assessment.
- Assesses deal strengths and weaknesses and risk factors. Evaluates and establishes risk ratings for transactions and correlates exposure levels as a part of the client strategy discussion. Completes and coordinates memos (e.g., Deal Concept Memo) using established processes and materials. Works with specific lenders to conduct loan portfolio management activities including collecting financial statements, proactively preparing calculation of borrowing bases, and monitoring loan covenants. Owns the process to monitor the receipt of borrowing base and covenant compliance from clients. Owns the Credit Dashboard for assigned PWAs to ensure various credit metrics are in the low-moderate risk category or better (i.e. blue or green). Works with CCA analysts during the underwriting process on relationships up to $2.5MM and with Credit Risk Managers on relationships over $2.5MM.
- Prepares thorough servicing reviews on a periodic basis and participates in the risk rating verification process. Works with Bankers and Credit partners regarding risk rating overrides. Conducts timely compliance and credit review (e.g., annually) for Bankers. Completes spreads and also forwards statements for spreading and ensures upload to internal databases/systems. Initiates discussions as needed with Bankers to ensure customers' positive operating performance and ability to meet obligations. Notifies bankers of any deterioration in operating performance. Submits periodic reporting and servicing. Assists with the completion of Problem Asset Memos.
- Monitors tickler and exception reports to manage flow of financial reporting and client compliance with covenants. Provides a cohesive and comprehensive approach to review ratings, risk assessment, portfolios, clients and industries in assigned sector. Prepares and presents annual risk reviews and tiering analyses. Assigns risk ratings and maintains updated credit research on portfolio of clients. Ensures all transactions and processing comply with regulatory and company guidelines, policies and procedures. Interfaces with Loan operations team regarding booking of new and amended deals, waivers and modifications, providing all necessary documentation to complete closing process.
- Works with Bankers, agent bank officers, and bank attorney on the loan documentation and closing process for all credits as necessary. Interfaces with the administration operations officer on the booking of new deals, setting up appropriate loan monitoring procedures, and ensuring proper set up on the loan systems for accurate ongoing monitoring. Works collaboratively with bankers to drive and own the renewal process including engaging with clients to understand future business objectives and credit related needs.
- Collaborates with Bankers and other business teams (e.g., Treasury, Cards) to meet client credit requests and assists in efforts to identify cross-sell opportunities. Partners with Private Wealth Advisors to assist in new business development and prospecting efforts including screening new loan packages. May travel to customer locations with Private Wealth Advisors. Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.

Minimum Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum experience:
- 3 years of credit analysis/underwriting experience; or 5+ years of indirect experience with a working knowledge of covenants, borrowing bases, deal vetting, loan structuring, and/or various types of personal and business financial statements
Certifications or Licenses:
- This position requires successful registration and issuance of a unique identification number from the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) in compliance with the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (SAFE ACT). Registration must be accomplished within an established timeframe after initial employment and includes a nationwide finger print check.
