Our Controls Engineer II works on projects, developing and executing process control system integration and information solutions projects. This position performs design, development, and deployment and testing of electrical equipment, control systems (PLCs, HMIs), and information solutions (Historians, MES).
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Hybrid position in Portland Metro/Hillsboro, Oregon to support local customer facilities as needed. Candidates should be based within 45 – 60 minutes of Portland Metropolitan/Hillsboro, Oregon.
Salary: $90,000 - $125,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
On a typical day you will:
- Coordinate with Lead Engineers and Project Managers to execute project tasks, report task status, and provide execution feedback and project risks to help execute the project.
- Work on project deliverables such as updates to Functional Specifications (FS), Hardware Design Specifications (HDS), Software Design Specifications (SDS), Electrical Drawings, Installation and Operation Qualification (IOQ) Protocols, HMI Applications, PLC Applications, Control Strategies, System Configuration, and Information Solutions.
- Regularly attend staff meetings, project meetings, client review meetings, and/or internal project review meetings.
- Execute and support IOQs and start-up and commissioning activities.
We are looking for someone with a solid background in Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical preferred) and at least five+ years of experience in the process control industry, preferably in Industrial Pharmaceutical Companies, Life Sciences, or Chemicals.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in process controls and systems integration
- B.S. in an Engineering discipline or other related field or equivalent work experience and training
- Extensive experience configuring/troubleshooting/commissioning Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley hardware and software consisting of PLCs, IO families, Networking Devices, HMI, Drives, MCCs, and FactoryTalk Platform
- Experience configuring/troubleshooting/commissioning electrical panels, control loops, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Microsoft Server configuration and administration experience
- Regulated industry experience – preferably GAMP and common pharmaceutical/Life-Sciences validation practices
- Experience with various unit operations
- Ability to tour and work at manufacturing sites which may include activities such as climbing stairs, different sized ladders, and stairways
- Ability to travel for projects as and when required
- Able to carry at least 20lbs, which could include computer equipment, laptop bags, etc.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced agile work environment, which requires proactiveness and good communication skills to keep your teammates and clients up to date
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of experience in process controls and systems integration
- BS Degree in Engineering or Technology focused degree
- Hands-on industrial automation experience, preferably in an OEM or factory, supporting automated equipment in factory or building automated equipment for manufacturer
- Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences, or Chemical Industry experience
- Experience in assisting with quoting projects, writing specifications, test protocols, and drawing updates
- Ability to manage portions of projects as assigned by adhering to budgets to complete tasks assigned and occasionally manage small size projects
- Experience with various other vendor historians, SCADAs, PLCs, and motors/drives is a plus.
- Experience in consulting Front-End Loading (FEL) or system integration is a plus.
- Experience with technical management of projects and execution
