POSITION SUMMARY : The Producer/Writer produces, writes and edits news reports, ads, educational and promotional programs for radio and television broadcasts, for social media, and for patient and referring physician informational and promotional videos, while coordinating work with administrators, physicians, and radio and television personnel. Re-purposes work and writes for other internal and external publications/social media platforms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.

Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or Media Studies.

EXPERIENCE:

1.

One years’ experience in writing and interviewing for broadcast and/or print.

2.

One years’ experience in various aspects of studio & field production.

3.

One years’ experience editing video.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

EXPERIENCE:

Three years’ experience in writing and interviewing for broadcast and/or print.

2.

Three years’ experience in all aspects of studio & field production.

3.

At least one years’ experience editing video.

1.

Producing WVU Medicine health reports for broadcast newscasts across state.

2.

Producing video reports for use on Doctors On Call on West Virginia Public TV show.

3.

Assisting with the planning of the live production of Doctors On Call on West Virginia Public Television.

4.

Producing educational and promotional videos for distribution to physicians, patients and general public, working closely with physicians and other key stakeholders.

5.

Developing topics for videos by conducting research & by consulting with physician experts and marketing calendar.

6.

Planning & scheduling shoots of physicians, patients, and other videos necessary in order to tell the story.

7.

Videotaping physicians, patients, and other videos necessary in order to tell the story.

8.

Interviewing physicians and patients on camera.

9.

Uploading video to sophisticated digital editing system.

10.

Transcribing video interviews of physicians and patients for use by self and others to write stories.

11.

Writing scripts for health reports, videos for Doctors On Call, videos for web.

12.

Editing videos using sophisticated digital editing system.

13.

Distributing video to TV stations to meet scheduled air date.

14.

Re-editing, reformatting videos to distribute on multiple platforms. e.g. from news – marketing, video – print.

15.

Uploading videos for use on social media platforms.

16.

Coordinating guests and continuity for live production of Doctors On Call.

17.

Archiving master videos and broll to server.

18.

Maintaining log of video to allow future ease of access.

19.

Serving as production assistant on major commercial shoots with external production companies.

20.

Promoting programs, services, physicians and staff expertise of WVU Hospitals by communicating with media representatives and providing escort on campus.

Ability to move freely throughout Hospital & Health Sciences Center, as well as off-campus & endure potentially long field shoots

Most duties will be performed in a typical office environment. Field shoots & productions will be in various places on and off campus - in health care settings, patients' private homes & workplaces, outdoors, television studios, etc. On outdoor shoots may sometimes briefly be subject to extreme weather conditions.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1.

Writing for a lay audience.

2.

Videography (or ability to direct crew) and video editing.

3.

Excellent communication skills and knowledge of social and emerging media.
