Position Highlights

The University of Arizona's College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants for the position of Professional Skills Learning Facilitator (Student Support Specialist III). In collaboration with the Professional Skills Course Directors, this position is responsible for facilitating learning and development of professional skills within the pre-clinical curriculum. The Learning Facilitator will support the development of communication skills to develop relationship-centered client partnerships that are culturally responsive, deepen students’ information literacy, support course development through curation of research articles, and participate in educational research projects within the professional skills curriculum, including literature review, analyzing data, and contributing to article development for publication.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Tracks student growth and progress in developing effective communication skills to build relationship-centered partnerships with clients, including analyzing learning needs.
  • Works collaboratively to revise and develop curricula, materials, and programs to develop student’s skills in communication, social intelligence, cultural humility, culturally responsive communication and relationship building, and self-reflective learning processes and practice.
  • Coordinates and supports standardized client encounters for veterinary medical students and serves as onsite resource and coach.
  • Provides written and oral feedback to students during individual coaching meetings, through grading of written assignments, in small groups, and during in class sessions.
  • Communicates with course directors when students are in need of support, provides support as needed.
  • Participates in and contributes to research and publications on effectiveness and learning within the Professional Skills curriculum, including conducting literature reviews.
    • Co-facilitates within the Professional Skills course.
    • Supports development of graduate students.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to develop an inclusive, open, and positive learning environment.
  • Ability to manage the classroom environment within a professional program.
  • Ability to develop individualized coaching and support.
  • Ability to provide culturally responsive teaching and coaching, with an emphasis on cultural humility.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • 5 years minimum of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s, Ph.D., or other advanced degree appropriate for providing learning facilitator within a college of veterinary medicine.
  • Experience working with students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds, and in developing and implementing culturally responsive curricula for a broad range of students.
  • Experience working with diverse learners/professionals to develop client-centered communication skills.
  • Experience working in a health sciences setting supporting students.
  • Experience working one-on-one and in small groups to develop an environment where individuals learn to create client-centered relationships and understand their role in serving diverse constituents.
