The Program Aide I assists with the implementation of preplanned scheduled activities program and special events (i.e. arts, crafts, pool, table games, cooking classes, homework, and field trips) for summer program at the John Valenzuela Youth Center. Position may from time to time be stressful and require a high demand of performance. May perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assists with educational and recreational activities, such as outdoor/indoor games, computer tutoring, and homework as part of the daily schedule
• Provide supervision of youth at all times, ensuring a safe, healthful environment
• Observes center and program regulations
• Effectively communicate with diverse cultural and ethnic groups, including individuals with disabilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 16 years of age, or older
• Current enrollment in high school or alternative school
• 4 weeks of previous volunteer or paid work experience at recreation facility
• Excellent organization skills
• Proven communication skills (appropriate style, grammar, and tone)
• Obtain State of Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card if 18 years or older (company paid)
  • If under 18 years of age, must be directly supervised by a holder of a valid Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
• TB skin test (company paid)
• Pre-employment drug screen (includes marijuana, regardless of recreational use laws) (company paid)
• Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification (company paid)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Additional volunteer or paid work experience in a recreation facility
• Bilingual, English / Spanish verbal and written
• Experience with programs serving high-risk youth
