Type, Hours, & Compensation: Part-time, contract, $5,000/year, average of 200 hours per yr. This contract is for July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024

Job Description: The Program Director, with oversight by the AYO Board, is responsible for the programming management of the organization. This position represents the organization in the community, is responsible for programming and teaching curriculum, and in cooperation with the AYO Board, provides long-term planning for the organization. The Program Director reports to the AYO Board of Directors.

Typical Duties

• Represents AYO to students, parents, partnering schools and in the community.
• Ensures AYO provides a quality music education program. This includes identifying and implementing the educational goals and curriculum for the program, hiring and screening instructor applications, drafting contracts with AYO instructors, and planning and scheduling classes.
• Ability to substitute for occasional classes as the need arises.
• Manages the AYO music school and office property
• Ensure that the music program is financially viable; advises the AYO Treasurer on program resource needs; oversees program-related purchases as authorized by the budget.
• Relationship building with local schools and community partners for AYO lessons and concerts.
• Management of student registration, instrument rental program, and payment
• Schedules and advertises concerts and performances.
• Maintaining the inventory of AYO instruments, arranging for necessary maintenance and repair and working with the Board to plan needed instrument purchases
• Communication with families and community supporters
• Oversight of program-based fundraising initiatives
• Grant management
• Communicates with the AYO President, the AYO Treasurer and the AYO Board regarding the program’s progress and any problems.
• Attends AYO Board meetings.
• Compliance with ADA, DEI, mission statements
• Other duties as assigned by the AYO Board for the furtherance of the purposes of AYO.

Basic Qualifications

• A commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace and as a primary objective of our organization.
• Significant education and experience in music performance and teaching of the violin, viola, cello, or string bass.
• Basic office skills, including money handling and current computer skills.
• Leadership skills and a self-starter.
• A passion for youth music education.
• Able to pass a Greater Albany Public Schools volunteer criminal background check or exemption on file.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual Spanish preferred
• Experience working in the nonprofit sector
