- Establishes strategic objectives for the unit based on the identified needs of the community and the patient population.
- Responsible for the overall operation of the unit, the implementation of established policies, and liaison with the hospital, the medical staff, and the departments of the hospital.
- Responds to the community's needs for quality health care services by monitoring the adequacy of the unit's resident care activities in coordination with state Medicaid, medical staff, Quality Council, and other hospital staff.
- Coordinates unit recruitment and retention efforts.
- Provides formal and informal education based on identified needs for staff/peers.
- Establishes and maintains formal means of accountability from staff and managers through appropriate departmentalization and the delegation of duties.
- Oversees the preparation of reports for and attends meetings with Kindred Network Management Staff regarding the total activities of the unit.
- Establishes and revises long-range plans which support the unit's philosophy and general objectives.
- Acts as primary person, along with Clinical Manager, to ensure that all human resources actions regarding compensation, benefits, transfers, layoffs, recall, company sponsored training, education, tuition assistance, social and recreational programs are executed in compliance with Kindred's Equal Employment Opportunity policies and practices. Acts as the unit's Equal Employment Coordinator ensuring that the unit is in compliance with affirmative action regulations.
- Recommends policies and practices that adequately support resident care.
- Reviews and acts upon the reports of authorized inspecting agencies.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies, governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring the unit's operations, programs, and physical properties; initiates changes where required.
- Designs, develops and implements a comprehensive and effective working program to meet the unit's occupancy goals and objectives.
- Ensures compliance requirements are met. Provides leadership and support regarding compliance issues at the operational and unit levels. Develops and distributes written compliance-related materials. Provides appropriate training. Ensures training is properly documented. Distributes internal and external audit reports and monitors corrective actions related to identified compliance-related issues. Monitors unit's staff in the execution of their compliance-related functions.
- Other related duties as assigned and requested.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills with working knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet software.
- Ability to work under stress and to respond quickly in emergency situations.
- Good interpersonal skills for interacting with residents, resident's families, physicians, and other staff members.
- Ability to communicate in English effectively through verbal and written means to extent necessary to perform job duties appropriately.

- Minimum of a bachelor in business or a health care related field.
- Must be a licensed nursing home administrator in the state.
- Must have at least 3 years of nursing home management experience.
