POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist litigation attorney and paralegal teams in all phases of discovery through trial preparation. Observe confidentiality of client matters and keep accurate time records.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow the ethical requirements as set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the State.
  • Assist with management and organization of litigation case files to include document retrieval, bates labeling and indexing of documents for production, coding of documents, witness file preparation and other tasks related to general discovery preparation.
  • Assist with preparation and service of pleadings, court filings and discovery documents.
  • Assist with the maintenance of pleadings, correspondence and related case files for use by case team, including updating shared drives.
  • Assist with pre-trial and trial preparation including preparation of deposition designations, trial exhibits, and compilation of related trial examination binders.
  • Assist with monitoring and calendaring of important hearing and court dates for attorney.
  • Conduct basic database and internet research and work with various computer applications.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as photocopying, faxing and filing.
  • Assist attorneys and other paralegals with assigned projects.
  • Record daily time entries in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Firm.

BASIC QUALIFICATION:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Entry level or less than one year's on-the-job experience in a professional environment, preferred.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe acrobat and Excel.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when performing duties.
  • Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate in person, by e-mail and telephone and follow the instructions effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
  • Work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain while organizing and maintaining multiple cases.
  • Ability to retrieve and distribute print volumes, push and pull packages and books weighing up to 20 pounds, and ability to retrieve and replace objects from shelves of up to 8 feet high.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computer and photocopiers.
  • Work occasionally, and with little notice, may require more than 35 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position; may also require irregular hours.
  • Ability to travel to private and public buildings, locally and nationwide, via private or public conveyance to assist attorney in attending to client needs on legal matters.
