Protected Landscapes and Heritage Manager
£50,301 - £60,891
In recognition of local and national changes Cornwall Council’s needs someone to help shape how the protected and historic landscapes and heritage assets across Cornwall and West Devon are supported, promoted and enhanced.
The postholder will work alongside two Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty teams, Cornwall and Tamar Valley, the Cornwall and West Devon World Heritage Site team and the Strategic Historic Environment team. Between these teams, 445 square miles are designated as Cornwall and Tamar Valley AONBs, and over 1300 Scheduled Monuments, the Mining World Heritage Site status, and a variety of heritage-led projects are encompassed. In turn, their work supports the delivery of Cornwall Council’s Environment Growth Strategy, the Climate Action Plan, its Historic Environment Strategy and other priority outcomes.

The postholder will be a key advocate and supporter of the work streams and projects outlined in these published strategy documents, ensuring internal and external stakeholders, partners and colleagues understand the impacts and their role in supporting the aims and objectives of the landscape and heritage teams.
The postholder will help ensure that the work of these creative and innovative teams is placed within a strong strategic context, helping raise their profile, identify additional funding opportunities and ensuring appropriate resources are in place to allow the teams to add value and to fulfil their various statutory obligations. This will involve working across other Council services such as Planning, as well as working with a wide range of regional, national and international stakeholders such as Local Nature Partnerships, National Trust, NAAONB, Government and UNESCO, to ensure these teams reach their full potential delivering for the people of Cornwall and Devon.
We are looking for someone with a passion for, and knowledge of, Cornwall and West Devon’s heritage, distinctiveness and landscapes to support the individual team leaders and promote the work of their teams. You will have expert knowledge of relevant landscape and historic environment management, a proven track record of building relationships with partner organisations, delivering heritage and environmental projects with a variety of stakeholders to the highest standards, with clear benefits and demonstrable outcomes, which also satisfy statutory obligations.
