Our Psychiatric Rehabilitation Counselor is an integral part of the Mobile Intervention for Young Adults (MIYA) Program which delivers comprehensive, mobile services and support to youth during their transition out of the social service system into a community. The MIYA Program engages youth in decision-making and problem-solving processes for all aspects of their life. The program works closely with the youth’s family and natural support systems to assist the youth with meeting their individual goals for recovery. This program serves Allegheny County Health Choices/Medical Assistance eligible youth ages 18 to 25 years, with a primary serious emotional/behavioral disorder (SE/BD) or serious mental illness (SMI) who fall into at least one of the following categories:
- Currently living in an adult Community Residential Rehabilitation Program (CRR) or Long Term Structured Residential Program (LTSR)
- Are being discharged from a psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (RTF)
- Are aging out of Children, Youth and Family Services
- Are transitioning out of the Juvenile Justice system
The ideal candidate for the MIYA Program is passionate about taking a clinical and skill development approach to assist youth to develop critical adaptive skills needed to negotiate, establish and adapt to independent living in the community. MIYA helps youth capitalize on opportunities to self-determine what they need to lead a meaningful life in the community. Candidates who are flexible in order to meet those needs and are able to work independently with fidelity to the MIYA model would make a successful Psychiatric Rehabilitation Counselor!
Key Objectives of this Role:
- Engage and re-engage the young adults as necessary to form a productive relationship and to assess current skills and needs of the consumers.
- Educate consumers and community on community resources, young adult mental illness, wellness and living in recovery, and model how to establish connections
- Demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the cultural diversity of consumers, volunteers, staff, and other stakeholders throughout the provision of services.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED and 2 years work experience in human services which must include 1 year of mental health direct service; CPS certificate and 1 additional year paid or volunteer work experience in mental health direct service; OR associate degree and 1 year work experience in mental health direct service OR a bachelor’s degree
- Must have or obtain within 6mos from date of hire a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner credential (CPRP) Auberle will support you through, and pay for the right candidate to receive this credential! -Organization will pay for candidate to receive this credential-
- Working knowledge of effective treatment modalities and trauma-informed services that support innovative therapeutic interventions
- Excellent engagement skills and teaching ability
- Ownership of a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance required
- ACT 33/34 and FBI Clearances prior to hire, Full COVID-19 vaccination required within 30 days of hire
