WAUSHARA COUNTY POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Psychotherapist – licensed LEVEL: G

DEPARTMENT: Human Services

FUNCTION: This position has the primary functions of providing clinical services including, but not limited to, assessment, treatment planning, psychotherapy, community education and outreach, case management, referral activities, peer consultation and reporting and record keeping. The position requires collaboration and coordination with the CCS, CST, CSP, CPS/YJ, and crisis units. License or license eligible preferred.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Perform clinical assessment of client problems or needs and assign diagnoses. Complete forms/documents required upon admission to therapy. Perform orientation including informing clients of rules, rights, and the general nature and goals of the psychotherapy. Establish short and long term goals. Determine treatment processes and resources to be used. Develop a treatment plan.

2. Perform psychotherapy functions using special skills and techniques of therapy to help the client, the family or the group. Participate in supervision meetings for both Clinical and CCS programs, including peer supervision/consultation as needed.

3. Perform client education including facilitation of programs or groups, ordering materials and preparing educational presentations.

4. Perform case management activities directed toward maintaining coordination of effort with other agencies

to develop and meet clinical goals.

5. Perform reporting and record keeping functions. Document activities performed, professional competence demonstrated, and reasonable actions taken. Create a record that other professionals might use and protects the interest of the client, the therapist, the agency, and the county. Satisfy requirements of insurers and licensing authorities.

6. Perform referral activities involving the provision of information to help clients benefit from the expertise of

other professionals in the treatment system.

7. Perform crisis intervention functions within the role of psychotherapist. Assess the potential for client’s

dangerousness to self or others and the degree of disability and irrationality. Aid in the development of

Safety/Crisis plans as needed. Recommend emergency detention and/or hospitalization as needed.

8. All other duties as assigned by the Clinical Manager, Clinical Director or Director.

WORKING ELEMENTS:

A. Education, Training & Experience

Requires a Master’s degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family counseling, or guidance and counseling.

Wisconsin licensure as a Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Certified Independent Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker must be obtained within 30 months of employment in this position. Dual licensed therapist in mental health and substance abuse counseling is preferred.

B. Knowledge, Ability & Skills

This position requires a broad base of knowledge in psychology, social sciences, diagnostic criteria, and therapeutic techniques. Specific knowledge regarding distinct client sub groups or diagnostic categories is an asset.

Also required is a commitment to the client population, empathy, personal authenticity, the ability to establish rapport, flexibility and assertiveness.

The position requires cooperation with supervisors and other staff and the ability to maintain appropriate professional relationships with other agencies.

Also required is the ability to communicate effectively in both a written and verbal manner.

C. Responsibility and Authority

Reports directly to the Clinical Manager, but also responsible to the Clinic Director and Director for the fulfillment of duties as specified and special duties as assigned. Consultation may be offered to staff of other agencies as approved by management.

The psychotherapist will collaborate with the Crisis Team to assist consumers with emergency mental health needs and/or the coordination of emergency detentions or voluntary admissions. No crisis rotations are required in this position. Waushara County has a dedicated crisis unit.

D. Working Conditions

Will involve at least one evening per week. Schedule is flexible depending on client needs.

While not frequent, there could be occasional weekend hours.

Will involve working with clients who are in crisis, incarcerated, irrational, or have difficulty managing their emotions. While the risk is small, such individuals could be potentially aggressive and may represent a danger to self and others. Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance is required.

Must maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Waushara County clinical positions require the ability to collaborate and develop positive relationship with others including but not limited to outside agencies and county departments.

Must be able to perform duties and follow policies and procedures independent of direct supervision. Requires the ability to communicate effectively in both a written and verbal manner.

Requires the ability to organize and prioritize time and activities to meet the needs of the workload.
