We are pleased to be growing and strengthening our Real Time Gen-Desk Team at LCRA’s Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE). We are looking for one highly motivated individual at an associate level to join this team with our control room center being in Austin TX. This associate level position could become progressively responsible for real-time, same-day and hourly monitoring of our generation fleet, customer loads and responding to ERCOT needs and directives in real-time as well as learning some of the Day Ahead activities and assisting our Real Time Operations Coordinator in reviewing our internal procedures and assisting in updating them as required. Taking the initiative to learn from senior team members and using ERCOT’s extensive Learning Management program to enhance knowledge and skill level. This position could grow into a Senior level position in Real Time operations, Day Ahead Operations or other positions on the commercial team. Normally the Real Time operators work a 12 hour rotating shift and this position could end up doing that in time, however this position would initially be working day shift with the commercial team to learn all aspects of Real Time and Day Ahead operations. All team members are required to take annual training and participate in ERCOT related training programs. Is this position challenging, Absolutely, is it rewarding Absolutely.
You will be trusted to:
- Communicates all market and gas operation information to the Commercial Team Management staff as needed.
- With guidance from experienced GenDesk and Day Ahead staff, performs progressively responsible decision-making in all aspects of a qualified scheduling entity (QSE) in the monitoring and adjusting of generation controls to provide the most efficient operation of power generation units.
- With coordination of experienced GenDesk and Day Ahead staff: schedules energy; supports emergency management activities consisting of generation and transmission outages such as black starts; and manages market or reliability issues such as Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) following ERCOT Protocols and Guidelines, North Amercian Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Standards, LCRA Generation Desk Procedures, or other LCRA policies as appropriate.
- With coordination of LCRA’s experienced Real Time Operation Coordinator, review and inhance all LCRA RT Operations Procudures. Assist in outage scheduling of resources, employee training and compliance.
You qualify with:
Four or more years of experience in control room operations, generation scheduling, system scheduling or other business critical operations or other relevant experience. A degree(s) in finance, economics, math, electrical theory, electrical power distribution, electrical power generation, computer science or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.

- Knowledge of LCRA's natural gas pipeline and storage operations
- Knowledge of real time and day ahead energy and gas scheduling
- Knowledge of NERC and ERCOT operating guidelines, protocols, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of GenDesk Operations procedures
- Knowledge of power generation operations
