JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Job Title: Registered Dietitian FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job summary:
Registered Dietitian plans and supervises nutritional care of residents in accordance with the Physician’s diagnosis, diet prescription, and requirements of State Title 22 regulations for Skilled Nursing Facility.
Works closely with the Director of Health Services. Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team to develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate resident’s nutritional care plan.
Attending Care Plan meetings weekly as well as weekly dining services meetings. Prepares summary and attend quarterly and annual Quality Assurance Meetings.
Essential duties and responsibilities: Include the following: other duties may be
assigned.
Responsible for participating in weekly interdisciplinary Resident Care Conferences, attends quarterly
Health Center Quality Assurance Meetings.
Responsible for preparing resident chart notes as directed from the Care Plan Nurse.
Responsible for answering dietary clinical questions from residents.
Responsible for conducting tray-line, dietary in-service, and cooks’ meetings bi-monthly.
Responsible for planning, conducting, and summarizing bi-monthly Tray-line and Hillcrest cooks’ meetings.
Responsible for providing individual diet counseling for Health Center residents as well as Assisted
Living and Independent Living Manor residents.
Responsible for charting in Medical Records which includes completing initial nutritional assessments, writing interdisciplinary patient care plans, charting on diet changes/status changes, and writing quarterly and weekly progress notes.
Responsible for visiting residents at mealtime to monitor resident’s acceptance and tolerance of meals provided.
Responsible for dietary in-services for Health Center Tray-line staff.
Follow safety policies and exhibit safety habits and practices sanitary standards per department policy.
Use equipment and materials in a safe and acceptable manner, follow established safety procedures, use appropriate safeguards, and observe common sense rules of safety in all on-the-job activities including the
Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
Conduct self in a manner that reflects credit on Carmel Valley Manor and encourages others to do the same.
Demonstrate high standards of personal hygiene, including, but not limited to using proper hand washing techniques, observing "no smoking" policy except as designated, wearing hairnet or hat in food production area and maintaining a neat appearance.
Essential emergency duties and responsibilities:
Required participation in regular training for emergency preparedness and evacuation plan.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) following established procedures, when and where, dictated by
Carmel Valley Manor’s standards for the prevention of illness and injury. PPE includes, but is not limited to gloves, masks, eye protection, head, foot, and hearing protection equipment.
Emergency Duties:
Emergency response may include duties during an urgent-real-time situation, or duties during an extended event over a prolonged time frame. Duties could include working within your routine work area and performing your regular duties, or anywhere on the Carmel Valley Manor campus performing duties/tasks that are essential to keeping the campus operating. Emergency response duties will always be performed under the direction of a supervisor. Your position, as is every staff position at Carmel Valley Manor, is subject to recall during an extended event, and you may be required to work beyond your regular scheduled hours, for which you will be compensated for.
Qualifications (Education and/or Experience):
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability

Must possess a four-year degree and be a Registered Dietitian. Prefer a minimum of 2 years’ experience in Long Term Care/Skilled Facility, or health care facilities.
Must have knowledge of inputting dietary needs in Dietary Management Software (PPC preferred).
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language and carry out oral and written instructions.
Must possess great people skills and have empathy with seniors.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must work cooperatively with all manor employees and be an advocate for the dietary personnel.
Must have knowledge of clinical diets, be an advocate for a regular diet when applicable.
Must be able to answer dietary clinical questions from residents.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and work harmoniously with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the public.
Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures that are necessary for providing sound techniques.
Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.

Working conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and see. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
