About the Service

Sense Scotland provides a responsive short break service in a purpose-built, 5 bedroomed bungalow in the heart of Helensburgh. We cater for children and young people with complex support needs up to the age of 24.

Each break is specifically tailored to the needs of the young person, and will meet their communication, health, leisure and social support needs, providing an enjoyable break. We make the most of the facilities on site and in our local area. Wither that be local shops and cafes, the beach, woodland activities or a little further afield for go karting, trampoline and skate parks!

Children from across Argyll and Bute attend the service in a planned way throughout the year along with children from other parts of the country. Over time, many have built friendships

We work with the young people, their families, schools and health professionals to ensure their support plan reflects their needs, hopes and aspirations and to ensure we are Getting It Right for Every Child.

The staff team have a range of experience & interests and are dedicated to playing their part in supporting young people to realise their full potential. The support staff currently work 12-hour shifts as we have found this best supports the consistency of care offered to the children on their short break. They also play their part in working alongside the dedicated night shift staff as this too offers young people a sense of security whilst away from home and engenders a positive teamwork approach across the whole team.

We pride ourselves on maintaining a safe and comfortable environment, a place where people want to visit time and time again and where children young people with complex support needs can thrive. The children and young people we support have complex communication and support needs due to factors such as Autism, Learning Difficulties, their experience of anxiety or distress, epilepsy or sensory needs.

About the role

We are currently looking for a reliable and motivated person with excellent interpersonal skills to take on the role of Registered Manager on a fixed term basis to maternity leave. You will be based in the service in Helensburgh alongside the Depute Manager and the support team. You will also be part of the Central Region Managers Group who come together to support each other and to develop and share best practice across services.

As Registered Manager, you will be responsible for the day to day running of the building and the service provided. For staff recruitment, support, learning and development. You will have access to the resources of our Head Office at TouchBase Glasgow and will work in partnership with key individuals from our support departments such as employee relations, finance & fundraising. You will build strong professional bonds with families, local authority, health and education representatives both in the local area and neighbouring authorities. You will work alongside the Head of Operations and commissioners to ensure ongoing sustainability of the service.

About you

This is a management role like no other, we are looking for somebody who wants the best for children and young people; making sure every child and young person has the best possible care experience whilst building positive culture and ethos within the service.

We need you to be dynamic and forward thinking. Our service is vibrant, and child centred, where staff are creative and motivated to deliver activities that enhance the lives of young people and provide an environment that helps them flourish. You will embody and be at the forefront of this approach.

You will have experience in supervising and mentoring a large staff team to achieve positive outcomes and smooth running of the service. You should be confident in managing rotas, assessing risk, delivering high quality care and can manage your own workload. You must be able to solve problems creatively, while supporting your team to deliver services in line with best practice, regulation and registration. You will be confident when liaising with families and other key stakeholders for the service. You will have strong planning and analytical skills which are critical when it comes to planning the complexities of managing bookings, staffing provision and logistics to ensure the best outcomes for families, children and young people, commissioners and the broader organisation.

Your enthusiasm and experience will be underpinned with knowledge and qualification. You must have an SVQ 4 Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF Level 9 (or other specialty recognised by the SSSC for registration purposes). Candidate should also hold or be able to achieve SVQ Care Services Leadership and Management SCQF Level 10 (or other specialty recognised by the SSSC for registration purposes).
